Nicki Minaj may face criminal charges in lawsuit by ‘former manager’ over alleged backstage assault

Nicki Minaj may face criminal charges in lawsuit by 'former manager' over alleged backstage assault

I find myself potentially facing criminal charges following the legal action taken by my former manager against me, as per recent reports.

Based on information from TMZ, the Detroit Police have submitted a warrant application to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, which is currently evaluating whether to press charges against Nicki Minaj, aged 42, for alleged battery and intentionally causing emotional distress.

A prosecutor will decide if criminal charges will be filed.

According to documents acquired by the media outlet, Brandon Garrett, who identifies as the rapper’s ex-manager, states that Nicki Minaj, whose birth name is Onika Tanya Maraj, allegedly struck him while they were backstage following a concert at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit in April 2024.

According to DailyMail.com, Minaj’s legal representative, Judd Burstein, described the lawsuit as both “unfounded” and “ridiculous.” He also mentioned that the musician herself hasn’t received an official summons for the legal action taken against her.

Burstein also suggested that Garrett was the rapper’s ‘ex assistant’ and not a ‘former manager.’

The event in question happened as Garrett was summoned to Nicki’s dressing room for a task he had been instructed to complete.

According to Garrett, it was his responsibility to collect Nicki’s prescriptions, but since he was swamped with duties at the arena, he delegated the task to another employee, Luke Montgomery, instead.

According to Billboard’s report, the lawsuit claims that Minaj got noticeably angry and exclaimed, “Is it insane of me to have someone pick up my prescription for me?

It’s reported that she exclaimed, ‘You’ve clearly lost your senses, and if my husband were here, he would surely knock out your teeth. You’re a man on borrowed time. You’ve just made a grave mistake, one that will irrevocably ruin your life, and I vow to ensure you never recover from it.’

In the reported event, Garrett claims that Nicki came up to him and hit him on the right side of his face. This impact caused his head to jerk backward, and in the process, his hat fell off.

Later on, it was reported that security personnel near Minaj allegedly struck Garrett on his right wrist, which made him lose the documents he was carrying.

The musician apparently instructed Garrett to leave, using strong language, prior to heading to the venue restroom where he subsequently locked himself in.

Concerned about his well-being, Garrett asserted that he spent several hours hunkered down in the bathroom, using this time to contact his partner and share the events unfolding.

In the court case, he alleges that his wrist ached severely and his face was painful, yet due to fear and concern for his well-being, he chose to remain in the bathroom.

After the alleged occurrence, I found myself unable to reboard the tour bus for my journey back to Chicago, instead, I was stranded in Detroit.

After flying back to Chicago, he spent the following few days confined to his hotel room due to feelings of fear and trauma, as reported by Billboard.

As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share that I’ve taken action beyond the ordinary. I’ve stepped forward, reporting an incident to the Chicago Police Department and felt compelled to take it further. I’ve made my way back home to Detroit, where I’ve also filed a formal report with their law enforcement authorities.

The ex-employee who’s been accused claims he’s filing a lawsuit due to accusations of physical harm (assault), harmful contact (battery), and intentionally causing severe emotional anguish (intentional infliction of emotional distress). Brandon is additionally asking for punitive, symbolic, and overall damages.

In simpler terms, Nicki’s lawyer stated to DailyMail.com that currently, no official accusation has been presented to Mrs. Petty, so they are not yet aware of the exact claims being made against her.

Her Pink Friday 2 World Tour began in March 2024 and ended in October.
