Nick Lachey makes rare comment on ‘totally unexpected’ part of marriage with ex-wife Jessica Simpson

Nick Lachey is happily married to longtime wife Vanessa Lachey, and they share three children.

But more than twenty years ago the 51-year-old former boy bander’s life looked a lot different.

During a recent interview on the Richer Lives podcast, Lachey shared insights into his previous marriage with his former spouse, Jessica Simpson, who is now 44 and known for her singing and acting careers.

They appeared in MTV’s Newlyweds show, where their journey of adjusting to married life together was documented.

Nick mused, ‘The newlyweds transformed into an enormous television sensation, similar to the scale of ‘The Osbournes’ before them. However, unlike ‘The Osbournes’, which was primarily designed as a platform for their music promotion, this show emerged organically.’

He said that the show’s success and three-season run was ‘totally unexpected.’

He shared that since his and his ex-wife were both releasing albums, they decided to collaborate on a six-episode promotion for their respective albums by joining this series.

The person from Ohio mentioned they didn’t anticipate it would transform into a documentary-style series, focusing on everyday reality – quite an unforeseen surprise for them.

The show lasted from 2003-2005, spawning three seasons during that time.

Nick and Jessica’s three-year marriage ended shortly after, in 2006.

During the disintegration of his marriage, Nick found a moment to resume filming for his documentary series entitled “What’s Left of Me.”

Or more informally:

When his marriage was falling apart, Nick continued shooting scenes for his documentary show called “What’s Left of Me.

Additionally, the handsome starlet shared a rule they had been given concerning the film crew regarding their relationship on set with Jessica.

Initially, they advised me not to engage with the team as they were supposed to be invisible observers. But I told them that my nature doesn’t allow for such a setup. In order for this project to succeed, we needed to communicate and interact openly. I couldn’t have them watch me from afar without any dialogue, so let’s address this issue immediately.

In my experience, I found myself deeply bonding with the team. A poignant moment for me was when we had to close operations; it felt like losing a cherished part of my extended family. The connections that formed were more than just professional – they were heartfelt and meaningful.

After her divorce, Jessica was involved in well-known relationships with John Mayer and Tony Romo, later settling down with ex-NFL player Eric Johnson in marriage.

They share three kids: daughters Maxwell, 13, and Birdie, six, and son Ace, 12 in June.

Back in January, it was made known that they had parted ways following a decade of marriage. Simpson expressed in a public announcement that they had been leading separate lives and were dealing with a difficult situation in their relationship.

Currently, Nick and Vanessa are thriving together, sharing the spotlight as co-hosts on Netflix’s shows Love Is Blind and The Ultimatum.

On Richer Lives, Lachey spoke about balancing work and personal life with his wife.

He suggested, “It might be best to avoid taking your work home, especially if you both work together. However, it can be challenging, and we manage well most of the time, but there are moments when working with a spouse isn’t always straightforward.

He mentioned, “At times, personal disputes from home may follow you to work, and you wish to keep them separate. On the other hand, workplace disagreements can also spill over.” He elaborated.

The couple are parents to sons Camden, 12, and Phoenix, eight, and daughter Brooklyn, 10.
