Nick Lachey makes a rare comment about ‘scars’ from his marriage to ex-wife Jessica Simpson

As a long-time fan and observer of the lives of celebrities, I can’t help but feel a sense of awe when reflecting on the journey of Jessica Simpson. From her humble beginnings as a blonde bombshell to her meteoric rise to fame in the late 90s, Jessica has undeniably left an indelible mark on popular culture.

During the third season of The Ultimatum, Nick Lachey reminisced about his marriage to Jessica Simpson, a show that Netflix premiered on Wednesday.

Previously a member of a boy band and now aged 51, he co-hosts a reality TV program alongside his wife Vanessa Lachey (aged 44). In a recent episode, though, the show took a trip down memory lane as he reminisced about his first marriage to the famous songwriter behind “Take My Breath Away,” who is also 44 years old.

In 1998, Nick and Jessica started seeing each other following their encounter at the Hollywood Christmas Parade. Their wedding took place in 2002, but they parted ways in 2005.

Nick, having experienced divorce himself, empathizes with the pain and lingering wounds that come with it. As he spoke about this topic in 2022, according to E! News, he acknowledged these feelings.

Nick’s fears were eventually quelled when he met and married Vanessa in 2011.

If I hadn’t held on to my dream of having a lovely marriage and a wonderful family, I wouldn’t have experienced the beautiful life I now share with this woman.

In his own words, Nick stated, “Allow your past not to dictate your upcoming chapters.

The pair share sons Camden, 12, and Phoenix, seven, and daughter Brooklyn, nine. 

Meanwhile Jessica has been married to former NFL star Eric Johnson since 2014. 

They share daughters Maxwell, 12, and Birdie, five, and son Ace, 11. 

Nick has previously taken a small dig at his first marriage. 

In an episode of Love Is Blind season three, which aired in 2022, he expressed that marriage tends to be even more fulfilling when experienced for a second time.

During the exchange, Nick found himself sitting next to Vanessa. This seating arrangement ignited a swift wave of indignation among passionate followers of the show “Love Is Blind” online.

Many people considered the comment disrespectful and believed that involving Jessica unnecessarily in the situation was inappropriate.

One disgruntled Twitter user wrote, “Regardless of opinions on Love is Blind season 3, there was no need for Nick Lachey to involve Jessica Simpson in the conversation.

One fan did not hold back as they called Nick ‘sooo f***ing weird’ for shading his short-lived marriage with Jessica.

Meanwhile Jessica appeared to shade Nick in a 2023 interview with Bustle. 

After learning that fans of their old MTV reality series, Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica, now view Nick as the antagonist, Jessica commented on her previous belief in him as a loving spouse by saying, “It’s astounding what the influence of media can achieve.

Nick and Jessica famously wed back in 2002 after nearly three years of dating. 

They chose not to create a prenuptial agreement as Jessica felt their marriage would be everlasting.

Audience members had an up-close view of the relationship between the once famous duo who used to be together, as they watched their married life unfold on the popular MTV show “Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica.

For three seasons, the show aired on MTV, emphasizing Jessica’s portrayal of the ‘dim-witted blonde’ character while she explored her early married life with Nick.

One unforgettable scene from the program involved Jessica’s “Chicken or Fish Dilemma” – a moment when she found herself puzzled over whether the canned product was actually chicken or seafood.

Contrary to her representation, Jessica was indeed among the most gifted actresses in Hollywood, and she continues to thrive as a successful entrepreneur.

The final season of Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica aired in March 2005.

Approximately nine months after their union, Jessica decided to end her marriage with Nick, which had only lasted a little over three years. This decision was made official in the year 2006 when the divorce was finalized.

In her 2020 memoir titled “Open Book,” Jessica openly discussed her former husband and expressed that she felt their MTV show had little impact on their separation.

She expresses that she doubts the TV show was the primary cause of our marital issues, as Nick and I were quite adept at presenting a strong relationship both off-screen and in public.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can tell you that my partner and I thrived most in our relationship when we were harmonizing together in song. It was as if we had found our personal sanctuary in that shared space.

However, we initially approached the reality show more as a fun venture. It was enjoyable until our marital issues surfaced.

Apart from her confession, it’s known that she admitted feeling devastated because Nick seemed to be moving forward swiftly with Vanessa, not long after their separation.

“It appears, Nick, that you’ve moved on. It feels like the affection you shared with me is forgotten. I’m heartbroken and feel lonely, sitting here in the dark without someone who belongs to me.

During a late 2021 interview on Andy Cohen Live at SiriusXM, Nick admitted that he hadn’t yet read Jessica’s memoir and had no intention of doing so in the near future.

He informed host Cohen that he was well aware the book would be published, but he experienced the book’s content deeply. In essence, you can understand his sentiment.

Since I experienced the truth firsthand, there’s no point for me to read about it or someone else’s interpretation of it in a story. I didn’t and won’t read it.
