Nick Knowles reveals he's learning to walk 'normally' again after Strictly knee injury forced him to undergo two major operations

As a long-time fan of DIY SOS and Strictly Come Dancing, I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Nick Knowles. The man has been through it all – from home renovations to ballroom dancing – and now he finds himself on the sidelines, recovering from not one, but two major surgeries.

As a connoisseur of well-rounded living, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve embarked on a journey towards resuming my usual stride following my participation in Strictly Come Dancing. An unexpected turn of events led me to undergo two significant surgical procedures due to an injury, but now, I’m proudly taking steps towards recovery.

As a lifestyle aficionado, I must share an update on Nick Knowles, the beloved figurehead behind DIY SOS. Unfortunately, due to a severe knee injury sustained during rehearsals, he’s had to withdraw from this year’s live shows in October. Here’s to a swift recovery, Nick!

Currently, the presenter is showing us an authentic video where he’s trying to climb stairs using crutches, supported by a healthcare expert.

In the video, Nick wears knee and elbow braces too, carefully moving one foot after another, expressing his aspiration to regain full fitness by August 2025.

Updating his 312,000 followers, he wrote in the caption: ‘So it wasn’t on my letter to Santa for two major operations – one to reattach my bicep and a second to build a new ACL and mend two years in the meniscus.

I can’t express enough gratitude to the two extraordinary masters of their craft who’ve worked wonders on me – Mr. Ahrens, the magician of my bicep, and Mr. Jig Patel, the maestro of my knee. You both are the real MVPs!

Here are three kinds of knee braces, as well as a single elbow brace. Additionally, there are crutches, a game-ready ice and pressure machine, compression leggings, and physiotherapy exercises that will last for several months. However, I aim to walk without assistance by the beginning of February, in preparation for the upcoming DIYSOS event.

Speaking from personal experience, I must express my heartfelt gratitude towards my fiancée, Katie. She’s been extraordinarily patient, understanding, and supportive as I navigate through life – a task that I admit, I sometimes handle like the world’s most challenging patient!

Despite being challenging financially and emotionally, I’m committed to regaining full fitness by approximately August 2025. Thank you for your kind words of support and encouragement. Wishing everyone a prosperous new year!

After Nick shared an explanation on his Instagram for missing the Strictly final earlier this month, it followed that…

DIY SOS celebrity captured himself enjoying the live broadcast right from his fiancée Katie Dadzie’s cozy home in Berkshire.

It was disclosed that Nick wouldn’t be participating in the show or the group dance, as he had undergone a knee surgery just two days prior due to an injury he suffered during the competition.

Initially, he hurt his shoulder while changing a tire on his vehicle, and later, a unsuccessful jumping move during a dance practice session forced him to use crutches.

The presenter greeted his audience: “Hello all. It’s Saturday evening, and the climactic game is airing on television. Like you, I’m tuned in, but instead of being at the studio, I’m watching from home due to a series of unfortunate circumstances – I’ve had a major arm surgery and have recently undergone a significant leg operation as well.

‘As a result, I’m only two days out from surgery, so I can’t be there.

However, just like you, I’m seated here enjoying this fantastic spectacle, rooting for my friends – JB, Sarah, Chris, and Tasha – who truly deserve victories. Here’s wishing them outstanding performances.

I am profoundly grateful for your heartfelt well-wishes and the hopes you’ve expressed for my swift healing. Unfortunately, I cannot join everyone else at this time. Yet, it has been an absolutely extraordinary journey that I will forever cherish.

‘Merry Christmas to all of you, happy New Year, and congratulations to whoever wins the final.’

With the video, he wrote: “I won’t make it to the final because I’m just two days post-surgery, and it was a major knee operation – an ACL reconstruction along with two meniscus repairs, including a tendon from my hamstring being harvested. To add to that, I’m also recovering from a separate surgery to reattach my distal bicep, which makes moving around on crutches challenging.

I needed to undergo the surgery immediately so that I could regain mobility and prepare for filming on BBC DIY SOS starting early February.

I’ve got a lot of physical therapy and sessions with physiotherapists ahead, but I’m determined to approach this challenge with the same intensity I brought to my dance training. Success won’t happen overnight; instead, it will be achieved gradually.

By the end of February, I aim to walk without crutches, confidently navigate stairs, and traverse uneven terrain safely. Additionally, I aspire to dance again since my first wedding dance is scheduled for June. With determination and hard work, I believe I will regain full strength and mobility in approximately 8 months, as if nothing ever happened.

Wishing the best of fortune to my friends performing tonight and those reuniting in the studio. The dance and camaraderie were fantastic, but the injuries, not so much.

‘Merry Xmas to you all and thank you for your wonderful messages wishing me to get well soon.

This year, I’m excited to share some fantastic projects with you, including several more captivating DIY SOS episodes – we’ve already filmed two of them! You’ll also meet numerous heartwarming families as part of the experience. Additionally, there are two awe-inspiring travel shows set in Mongolia coming up soon, which promises to be an extraordinary and breathtaking journey filled with incredible people.

As I recline on the couch, sporting a likeness halfway to Darth Vader with his mechanical accessories, I extend my warmest wishes for a joyful Christmas season and an exciting, enjoyable New Year ahead. Catch you again in 2025!

Nick is hoping he will recover in time for his first dance at his wedding to Katie next summer.

He shared: ‘We’ve booked our wedding for next summer and the plan is for us to be able to do a first dance. It won’t be a full Strictly routine but I’m determined to have a special dance with Katie.’

The longtime TV personality commended Katie for her exceptional help in attending his medical appointments and assisting him with dressing, as he is currently unable to do so independently.
