Nick Knowles, 63, says wife Katie’s life-saving emergency surgery after ‘brutal’ hysterectomy aged 35 was ‘really frightening’ as he gives health update

Nick Knowles recently revealed he was terrified when his wife, Katie, needed emergency surgery eight weeks ago to save her life.

Katie, 35, needed an emergency operation after suffering complications from a hysterectomy.

The lingerie business owner had the procedure done in July after years of dealing with pain from PCOS and endometriosis.

A hysterectomy is surgery to remove a woman’s uterus, and sometimes also includes removing her ovaries or other nearby organs.

Two months after the incident, Nick, age 63, is sharing what happened and how Katie is doing now.

It’s been absolutely terrifying watching my wife go through this. All I want is for her to feel better, to be healthy and free from pain. Honestly, I don’t think anything I could ever experience would compare to the last six months she’s had. She’s been unbelievably strong and amazing through it all, and I’m just in awe of her.

Having a hysterectomy, particularly at her age, often forces a woman into perimenopause and menopause, and that transition can be incredibly difficult.

In September, Katie needed emergency medical attention after the stitches used to close her cervix broke open. This caused her significant pain, bleeding, and she nearly fainted.

A team of six surgeons performed the operation with fears her bowel had been perforated.

Nick described the frightening experience, explaining that after three months of recovery, Katie’s progress unfortunately reversed, requiring emergency, life-saving surgery. He said that operation was particularly scary.

Katie recently shared details about a health issue on Instagram. She explained that a previous surgical closure on her cervix failed, causing internal problems. This led to severe abdominal pain, trouble breathing, intense bloating, heavy bleeding, and fluid where it shouldn’t be – even affecting her bowel.

I needed emergency surgery, and I was surprised by how quickly things moved. I expected a long wait, but they completed blood tests, a CT scan, and got me prepped for surgery in less than 10 hours.

Nick expressed how proud he is of Katie for bravely sharing her story, even after everything she’s been through.

The presenter explained that Katie overdid it after her hysterectomy, and now her recovery needs to be closely monitored.

A mother of two who owns a lingerie business chose to have a hysterectomy because she was experiencing severe pain that made it difficult to live a normal life. She described being sick, confined to bed, and unable to participate in activities she enjoyed.

Katie recently shared with her followers that she had a hysterectomy at age 35. She explained she’s been dealing with PCOS, endometriosis, and adenomyosis for a very long time, and emphasized that her condition was much more serious than simply a difficult period.

Life became a cycle of hospital visits and surgeries. I experienced heavy bleeding, debilitating pain that caused constant vomiting, and spent much of my time in bed, unable to participate in the things I enjoyed.

I was severely bloated, to the point where people thought I was pregnant. I also suffered from debilitating migraines and sharp, constant pain in my legs, hips, and abdomen. On top of that, I was constantly exhausted.

I found her huddled in the bathroom, absolutely heartbroken about how things had fallen apart again. It broke my heart even more to learn my daughters were actually scared of starting their periods, terrified they’d end up like me. It was a really tough moment, realizing the impact everything had had.

For years, my health issues were dismissed or misdiagnosed, and I was simply told to manage the pain with medication. I was led to believe this was normal, but it wasn’t. It led to many moments of despair, like crying on the bathroom floor.

I’ve experienced embarrassing and painful periods, even bleeding through my clothes in public. I’ve undergone three surgeries and tried countless medications, patches, and hormonal treatments. I even had to temporarily stop my periods medically just to get through university. Despite all of that, the pain persisted.

Katie shared that dealing with her diagnoses was so painful she felt disconnected from who she was. After surgery, she honestly admitted to feeling less feminine, but explained she chose to have the operation to regain control of her life.

Katie shared that she feels different since her hysterectomy, and is currently experiencing a lot of discomfort. She’s feeling bloated, tired, hot, and has been more forgetful than usual.

Okay, so things are…intense right now. Honestly, I feel completely stripped bare, like a version of myself I barely recognize. It’s weird to say, but I don’t even feel fully me, or even like a woman, if I’m being real. But this…this was something I had to do. I needed to reclaim my life, you know? Stop just getting through each day and actually live. I was just existing in pain, and I needed days that weren’t dictated by it. It’s scary, but it feels…right.

Okay, deep breaths. This feels like the first step towards actually fixing things, you know? Like, finally starting to love myself – flaws, scars, everything that’s happened… it’s all part of me. And honestly, if you’ve read this far, please understand… this is incredibly personal. It’s just… me, trying to work through things.

Katie and Nick, who is 27 years older than her, got married in September with a large, expensive wedding at Braxted Park in Essex. The wedding reportedly cost over $100,000.

The wedding was reportedly lavish, with a guest list that included celebrities, like Nick’s fellow dancers from Strictly Come Dancing.

The new couple has unfortunately faced harsh online criticism throughout their relationship, with people making fun of both their age gap and their different financial situations.

I’ve been following Katie and Nick’s relationship since they started dating back in 2021, and it’s been frustrating to see people accuse Katie of being a ‘gold digger.’ She recently shared that those comments don’t bother her as much anymore, because she and Nick both know they aren’t true, and honestly, that’s a relief to see.

She told TopMob that the age difference was initially a bigger issue, particularly for her family. However, she’s now used to the comments and doesn’t let them bother her, as she and her partner know they don’t reflect reality.

Katie explained that both she and Nick work hard and enjoy buying gifts for each other, acknowledging they each have achieved their own level of success through their efforts.
