Nick Jonas recalls being pestered about his ‘sex life’ as a teen star

The Jonas Brothers are reminiscing about encountering inappropriate queries during the early stages of their professional journey.

This week, the threesome – Kevin (age 37), Joe (age 35), and Nick (age 32) – appeared as guests on Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast. They shared their experiences of growing up under intense scrutiny.

In the early 2000s, I was part of the music scene that gained prominence, and we became well-known not just for our talent but also for our Christian beliefs. We often adorned ourselves with purity rings as a symbol of our commitment to these values.

In simpler terms, Joe disclosed that reporters asked whether he and his sibling were abstaining from sexual activity until marriage. He asserted that some journalists would go so far as to suggest in their articles that the two were involved in a cult if they refused to comply with their demands.

Nick, being the husband of Priyanka Chopra, emphasized that it wasn’t just the two of them; rather, it was an entire group of upcoming young individuals who were experiencing this industry culture.

Nick pointed out that there has been a change in the types of questions that are considered appropriate to ask entertainers during interviews.

He expressed his opinion that it’s an excellent idea. He also pointed out that such a request would be highly unlikely, almost unthinkable, especially when asking a 14-year-old about their intimate relationships.

Regarding those purity rings, Joe mentioned that it was a custom within our church community around the ages of 10 to 11, which everyone else seemed to be adopting.

At that moment, they collectively decided they would be patient until the ideal match came along.

During their adolescent years, he mentioned that they preferred not to talk about this particular subject, yet found themselves under pressure to offer responses considered acceptable.

In addition to sex, they young men were quizzed about religion and Christianity.

Joe even said that there were even questions such as ‘What is God?’ and ‘Is there a God?’

He commented on the stress, saying, ‘It’s been documented… And that’s how we all experienced the weight. I can confidently attest for all of us present. We felt the burden because we essentially committed to these lives when we wrote about them in a document. It’s in print now, so it seems like an ongoing obligation.’

Eventually, the siblings grew to draw a boundary.

Joe expressed that the situation initially caused great fear and unease among us, but eventually, we reached a point where we decided, “Enough is enough.

As a lifestyle guide, I might express it this way: “It’s often when we reach that point of saying, ‘Enough is enough,’ that we embark on a journey to discover and define ourselves in our unique ways.

Each of the brothers would go on to marry and welcome children.

In the year 2009, it was Kevin who got married first, to Danielle Jonas, and since then they have become parents to two daughters – Alena, who is now 11 years old, and Valentina, aged 8.

Joe shares daughters Willa, five, and Delphine, three, with ex-wife Sophie Turner.

Nick is dad to three-year-old daughter Malti, whom he shares with wife Priyanka, 43.
