Nick Frost's comedy slasher film Get Away picked up by IFC Films and Shudder

As a gamer with a soft spot for horror-comedy flicks, I can hardly contain my excitement for Nick Frost’s upcoming slasher comedy, “Get Away”. Having grown up on the Cornetto trilogy, it feels like a nostalgic homecoming to see one of its masterminds back in the game. The premise of a family vacation gone awry on an island with a serial killer sounds like a delightful blend of humor and terror – essentially an island-set “Trap” that I can’t wait to get trapped in!

In 2025, a fresh blend of horror and humor, a slasher comedy, will be gracing Shudder’s screen. What makes it even more exciting is that it’s penned by Nick Frost, an author well-recognized for his collaborations with Simon Pegg, particularly in the Cornetto trilogy. Remember, Frost has been a vital part of all three movies, starting with the 2004 release of “Shaun of the Dead,” which celebrated its 20th anniversary this year!

In his upcoming work titled “Get Away“, we find ourselves in Sweden, where the story unfolds as the Smith family embarks on a vacation. However, their idyllic getaway takes a horrifying turn when they discover they’re trapped on an island with a ruthless serial killer. In essence, this film could be likened to another movie titled “Trap“, but set on an island instead.

The original title was “Svalta“, but the newly chosen one seems much more suitable as it incorporates a witty wordplay. However, “Svalta” is the name of the island where the family usually takes their vacations.

As reported by Deadline, the XYZ film, produced in North America, has been acquired by IFC Films and Shudder for streaming rights. You can expect this movie to appear on Shudder, a horror-focused streaming service under AMC Networks, starting from 2025. For those who might not be aware, Shudder is well-known for its collection of horror movies. Some other upcoming titles on Shudder include “In a Violent Nature” and “Oddity”.

Instead of waiting until 2025, you won’t have to, as the movie “Get Away” is scheduled to premiere in theaters on December 6th. This follows its global premiere at this year’s Fantastic Fest, which takes place in September.

Besides acting in the movie “Get Away,” Frost is also set to appear on screen alongside Sebastian Croft from “Heartstopper,” Aisling Bea, who’s known for her role in “This Way Up,” and newcomer Maisie Ayres. Steffen Haars directs this film. Lena Headey was initially involved but had to withdraw due to scheduling issues; she was subsequently replaced by Aisling Bea.

According to Frost, he is overjoyed that the movie has been distributed by IFC Films and Shudder, allowing for continuous cooperation and teamwork with Wayward Entertainment and the group at XYZ.
