Nick Cave opens up about the tragic death of his two sons: ‘This is actually quite difficult to talk about’
As a dedicated follower of Nick Cave’s music and life journey, I can’t help but be deeply moved by his heart-wrenching experiences. Losing two sons within a decade is an unimaginable tragedy that no parent should ever have to endure.
Nick Cave has opened up about tragic death of his two sons.
The Bad Seeds musician, 66, has lost two children in the last 10 years.
In 2015, tragically, his 15-year-old son Arthur passed away. It was following his initial experience with LSD, and he subsequently fell nearly 20 meters off a cliff close to their residence in Brighton, England.
In the year 2022, his 32-year-old son Jethro, who struggled with schizophrenia and fought substance abuse, passed away in Melbourne just two days following his release from prison, and merely two months after inflicting a violent attack on his own mother.
In a promo for ABC’s Australian Story, the musician told interviewer Leigh Sales that he no longer values art above all else after burying his two sons.
‘That idea that art trounces everything, it just doesn’t apply to me anymore,’ he confessed.
Later in the clip, as he delves into the topic of his sons further, he begins to choke up.
‘I’m sorry this is actually quite difficult to talk about,’ he said as the emotion overcame him.
As a devoted follower, I’ve often expressed deep remorse and feelings of accountability due to the unfortunate loss of my sons, as it seems unnatural and heartbreaking to bury a child.
In simpler terms, he expressed to The Guardian earlier this year that losing a child is an emotion shared by all, irrespective of circumstances, as the primary duty of every parent is to ensure their children survive and thrive.
‘Forget that. The one thing you’re supposed to do is protect your children.’
Regarding whether he feels responsible since drugs played a part in Arthur’s demise, he admitted: “It’s possible there might be a hint of that, yes.”
Based on my years of experience as a psychologist and counselor, I have seen many instances where certain traits and behaviors are deeply ingrained within individuals, often passed down through their DNA or family lineage. However, it is important to remember that these inherited tendencies do not define the entirety of a person’s character, especially when considering someone as young as Arthur.
In July 2015, unfortunately, Cave’s teenage son, Arthur, fell to his death from a cliff while under the influence of LSD during a session with a companion.
At an investigation concerning his demise, it was testified that the young man, who additionally had traces of cannabis in his body, appeared to be utterly confused and lost his footing, resulting in him falling from a precipice at the steep Ovingdean Gap, located near Brighton, UK.
In May 2022, Jethro Lazenby, another son of a popular singer, passed away only a few days after his release from prison.
32-year-old individual found themselves imprisoned due to kicking their mother in a dispute about cigarettes, resulting in visible injuries and bleeding.
In the days leading up to my court appearance, I wish I could say that I was mentally sound, but my attorney disclosed a troubling truth: I was diagnosed with schizophrenia, an illness which undoubtedly clouded my judgement.
In my line of work as a lifestyle expert, I often encounter stories that serve as reminders of the complexities and challenges faced by individuals in our society. One such story is about a man who had been grappling with a life marred by substance abuse, spending numerous years cycling in and out of custody as his circumstances deteriorated amidst the fog of illegal substances. Tragically, he found himself once again entangled within the criminal justice system, but this time, the story took an unexpected turn: he was discovered deceased in a budget motel in Melbourne.
