Nick Carter’s Heartbreaking Tears: Tragic Loss of Siblings in New Doc
In an emotional moment, Nick Carter wept while reflecting on the tragic losses of three out of his four siblings in the trailer for the upcoming documentary titled “The Carters: Hurts to Love You.
The Carter family, known for brothers Nick and Aaron who gained global recognition with The Backstreet Boys and as a solo act, have experienced the heartbreaking loss of three of their members due to complications related to drug addiction.
Leslie tragically passed away at age 25 in 2012, following an overdose; Aaron met his untimely end in 2022 at the age of 34, due to a mix of drowning, Xanax usage, and difluoroethane inhalation; and Bobbi Jean passed away in 2023 at 41 as a result of an overdose involving both fentanyl and methamphetamine.
The pair of surviving siblings, Nick (age 45) and his twin brother Angel (age 37), collectively known as the Carters, are joining forces to narrate their story about how stardom disintegrated their family in a forthcoming two-part documentary on Paramount +. This compelling tale will be broadcast on April 15.
A weeping Nick says: ‘Five kids, we’re all that’s left’ as he and Angel comfort one another.
Angel compares Aaron to a child trying to walk like an adult, suggesting that he started his singing career too early, robbing him of his childhood, as evidenced by the videos showing him at eight years old.

When stardom envelops you, it becomes necessary to conceal your suffering; people only witness the surface of your struggles.
Melissa Joan Hart, the actress who played Sabrina, commented, “He was such a radiant young man, with so many reasons to cherish life.” Scout Willis, Bruce Willis’ daughter, shared, “Carrying that much responsibility as a child made him feel incredibly isolated and yearned deeply for genuine affection.
According to a statement, the film, produced by Soleil Moon Frye, chronicles the lives of genuine American idols Nick and Aaron. While they appeared to lead charmed lives, brimming with talent, their story reveals a family grappling with mental health issues, substance abuse, and devastating neglect hidden beneath their remarkable abilities.
Angel delves into the intricate family circumstances that tragically claimed the lives of three of the original five Carter children, along with their father. She explores the suffering, stardom, pressures, substance abuse, presumptions, and at the core, the significant mental health struggles that the family grappled with. Her aim is to pay tribute to their journey and transform their past into a beacon of hope and purpose for those experiencing similar struggles.
Angel expressed that fame and wealth unfortunately led to the breakdown of our family. Mental health issues seem to be quite prevalent within our family lineage.
The video depicting Aaron’s deterioration, shared across social media and displaying him appearing emaciated and carrying firearms, is followed by a friend commenting: ‘Aaron’s situation took a turn for the worse; he was in an extremely troubled state, oh my goodness, I fear he might harm someone else before taking his own life.’
Angel said, ‘I can be a voice for him. This is what happened behind the scenes. Here is the truth.
Reflecting on a significant loss, I’ll never forget the unexpected passing of Leslie when I was just 23. It was an event I hadn’t foreseen, leaving me utterly taken aback. In the midst of preparing for what I believed would be Aaron’s impending demise, Leslie’s death came as a shock. Little did I know then, but it was a stark reminder that life can sometimes take unexpected turns.

‘I knew this day was going to come. I think he knew it, too.’
The trailer ends with Angel’s hopeful message: ‘Its sadness and chaos but it’s love too.’
On the unfortunate day of November 5, 2022, Carter, who was just 34 years old, was discovered deceased in a bathtub within his residence in Lancaster, California, by one of his housekeepers.
The reason for his passing was eventually determined to be due to drowning, following exposure to difluoroethane (often inhaled, colloquially known as “huffing”) and consuming Alprazolam, a medication marketed under the brand name Xanax.
Before the release of the autopsy findings in April, Jane, Aaron’s mom, publicly shared disturbing images from the site of his death, asserting that it was a criminal act, not an overdose. However, the authorities ultimately determined that his death was accidental.
Aaron, with a one-year-old son named Prince from his partner Melanie Martin, struggled with drug issues that resulted in numerous legal troubles and periods spent in rehabilitation centers due to his habitual substance abuse.
Born under the influence of his brother’s globally successful boy band, the singer sought to establish his unique presence in the realm of pop music. At the tender age of nine, he launched his career with his debut album, which was released by Jive Records, the same label that catapulted his sibling to fame.
In 2000, Aaron’s second album titled “Aaron’s Party (Come Get It)” achieved triple platinum status upon release and produced several hit singles. Among these was a music video for ‘That’s How I Beat Shaq,’ featuring the singer engaging in a one-on-one basketball match with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.
In just the United States, his 2001 album titled ‘Oh Aaron’ managed to sell over a million copies, but it didn’t grant him the enduring success that his brother’s group enjoyed. Following this release, he put out only one more album of original songs in 2002, then took an extended break of 16 years without producing any new music.

In the same vein as numerous youthful musicians of his time, Carter additionally dabbled in acting, gracing several Disney Channel comedies.
In the course of events, he managed to feature in several movies, such as ‘Fat Albert’ and ‘Ella Enchanted.’ However, much like his music career, his movie career also failed to sustain momentum.
Carter’s life frequently made headlines not just due to his sibling, but also because of the high-profile relationships he had, such as those with fellow young celebrities like Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan.
Additionally, he was featured on the reality TV series ‘House of Carters’, which aired on E!, alongside his brother and three other siblings back in 2006.
In 2009, Aaron Carter made a comeback into the limelight as he ended up fifth in the ninth series of Dancing with the Stars.
By 2011, the once-promising young actor found himself seeking treatment at the Betty Ford Center in California. Towards the end of that year, he made a comeback, gracing the stage once more, and even starred in an off-Broadway play.
