Next Battlefield to Have 'Large Scale Community-Driven' Playtesting in Early 2025

As a hardcore Battlefield fan with countless hours under my belt, hearing about EA’s community-driven testing program for the next installment of this iconic series has me grinning ear to ear! With four studios collaborating on this project, it feels like we’re in for one heck of a ride.

In early 2025, Electronic Arts (EA) is set to launch a substantial, player-centric testing phase for their upcoming Battlefield title. The four development teams working on the game are currently focusing on discovering and enhancing the enjoyable aspects of the gameplay.

During an EA Investor meeting, more information about the upcoming Battlefield game was disclosed as it’s currently in the process of rapid development and taking player feedback into account. This new information follows the announcement that the series is going back to a modern setting for its next release, while abandoning 128-player maps and Specialist characters.

As per Battlefield General Manager Byron Beede’s statement, the teams have been consistently playing and refining the game for more than a year now, with each development studio concentrating on different aspects of the project. DICE is primarily handling the multiplayer components, while Criterion is taking on a dual role, offering assistance to DICE and simultaneously working on the single-player campaign along with the team behind the Dead Space remake.

The studio named Ripple Effect is intensely focusing on developing a fresh Battlefield encounter right now. Beede mentioned that their work is driven by the distinctive Battlefield genetics, which has been receiving positive feedback from gamers, but did not disclose more information about the gameplay.

In his continued discussion, Beede echoed Andrew Wilson’s earlier remarks about assembling the biggest team ever for the latest Battlefield game. He emphasized that this team is not only large but also strong and highly focused. In addition, Vince Zampella, the head of Battlefield, has promised that the upcoming Battlefield will be more similar to its predecessors, indicating a potential shift away from the turbulence seen in Battlefield 2042.
