News Wire: Vidya – Agave Buff Details

As an old-timer gamer with memories of countless battles and victories etched into my gaming DNA, I can’t help but express my thoughts on this latest update for Agave.

Took them long enough to get this announcement out.

Optimizations and Buffs

  • Standard ability can now be repeatedly cast by holding down the assigned key
  • Standard ability gains a new passive: when Agave destroys a breakable part, all Truth Fragment stacks (resource generated by hitting an enemy’s breakable part with Agave’s standard skill) to halve the S-Energy cost of Agave’s standard ability for 3 seconds (additional Truth Fragment stacks cannot be generated during this period)
  • Parts break damage dealt by Agave’s standard ability increased based on Phase level
  • After casting Agave’s ultimate ability with at least 20 Personal Flair stacks (resource generated by hitting enemies with Agave’s standard skill, each stack consumed increases ultimate damage dealt, up to 100), casting her standard ability cast within 10 seconds directly skips to Phase 4

What This Means

Okay, so first things first.

Standard ability can now be repeatedly cast by holding down the assigned key

This is just a quality-of-life change to let you stop abusing your keyboard. Can’t complain there.

The rest of the changes are a bit more… mixed in usefulness.

As an avid fan, I’d rephrase it like this: Whenever I, Agave, shatter a breakable object, my Truth Fragments accumulate, momentarily reducing the S-Energy cost of my standard ability by half for 3 seconds. However, during this time, no more Truth Fragments can be generated.

This move propels Agave more toward a specialized position for parts replacement and lessens his involvement with Direct Patrol System (DPS) utilization. Moreover, this isn’t the sole indication of this shift; another push will be evident in the upcoming modification as well.

Parts break damage dealt by Agave’s standard ability increased based on Phase level

It may appear that this matter is significant in some aspects, yet insignificant in others. In truth, it reduces the inconvenience of being stationary during Phase 4 due to part breakdowns, as these incidents will result in additional damage to compensate for the extended casting time. However, when it comes to dealing direct HP damage, no changes occur.

Once Agave has amassed at least 20 layers of Personal Flair, utilizing her standard ability within the next 10 seconds will immediately progress to Phase 4.

It seems that Seasun’s design addresses the issue of having to shoot enemies once your S-Energy runs out during Agave, as this significantly diminishes the experience due to the reset of all standard skill damage potential. The logic behind this is that after depleting your S-Energy, you can use your ultimate and enjoy a period where you can fire shots to replenish your S-Energy before resuming the use of your standard skill at Phase 4.

Except, uhhh…

Yeah, you still lose all your weapon buffs. So it certainly sucks less to run out of S-Energy, but it still sucks.

In essence, these alterations, although an improvement, appear to be off-target with their intended goals. They intensify her destructive capabilities while simultaneously making an effort to resolve her S-Energy issues, but it feels incomplete. I find it peculiar that Seasun overlooked or intentionally neglected to strengthen her weapons during the downtime when Agave needs to replenish her S-Energy, considering this is already a significant vulnerability. Most players might not notice due to the majority of game enemies being fragile and easily defeated by a gentle breeze. However, it’s disconcerting knowing that this minor adjustment, which could have been implemented so simply, was either forgotten or intentionally omitted.

As a fan, I find myself in a tricky situation when it comes to Agave’s gameplay. To maintain her skill Phase levels consistently, I often find myself resorting to using the gun for attacks since Seasun hasn’t provided any other means of on-field regeneration yet. However, there is a temporary solution that lowers the cost of casting skills after breaking a part, which certainly helps, but it doesn’t solve the root issue – the depletion of S-Energy. It’s like sealing some leaks in a sinking ship; yes, the rate of sinking slows down, but the ship is still going under.

So what did these “buffs” actually accomplish?

  • Less keyboard mashing
  • Less S-Energy consumption, but still a mandatory period of downtime for sustain
  • More parts break damage
  • Playstyle shifted towards spamming sub-optimally stacked ults to maintain standard skill Phase level, but not weapon buffs

It appears that it’s primarily the casual players who are affected negatively, as the enhancements to Agave’s parts-breaking abilities don’t seem to be very beneficial in common game content. However, these changes could create a specific niche use for Agave once the exact numerical impacts have been determined.

Referencing the Titanic analogy again, it’s hard not to think of how Agave and her creation, Seasun, share similarities with the ill-fated ocean liner. Just as the Titanic was built with an overconfident belief in its invincibility, disregarding potential flaws, it seems that Agave designed her project with a similar sense of blind confidence. And just like the Titanic, which met its demise when it collided with an iceberg, Seasun’s attempts to correct course now appear insufficient once the cold, hard truth of reality struck.

Hey there! Now, isn’t it cool that they’ve included an S-Energy Cost Indicator? This way, I can keep a close eye on my energy reserves as I play along. Quite handy, don’t you think?
