The new series based on Yellowstone might be facing difficulties. It’s already dropped out of the top 10 most-watched shows on Paramount+, only three days after it began streaming.
According to FlixPatrol, the show Marshals has dropped to sixth place on Paramount+’s list of the most popular TV shows in the U.S. That’s a four-place decrease in just three days, which is a surprisingly quick drop for a new show connected to the popular Yellowstone universe.
There’s also concern that Marshals has fallen to the No. 10 spot globally on Paramount+, a significant drop of eight places from yesterday. However, the show is still performing well on demand. It’s currently the No. 2 show on Amazon Channels and the top show on the Apple TV Store, which suggests many Yellowstone fans may not be subscribing to Paramount+.
Yellowstone Fans Don’t Need to Worry About Marshals Just Yet
There’s a simple reason why Marshals quickly climbed and then dropped on streaming charts: only one episode has been released so far. While many Yellowstone fans likely tuned in to see the first episode when it aired on CBS, they probably wouldn’t have re-watched it on Paramount+.
Because each episode of Marshals is 43 minutes long, it doesn’t really lend itself to multi-day binge-watching. Unless Yellowstone fans repeatedly watched each episode before the next one came out, it was likely the show would eventually fall in the rankings – though the speed at which that’s happening is a little worrying.
The movie Marshals hasn’t been well-received by critics or audiences. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 46% approval rating based on 10 reviews, and viewers give it an even lower score of 40%.
Katie Doll argues that the lack of enthusiasm for the Marshals spinoff, focused on Kayce Dutton, is understandable. She explains the show takes the character in strange directions, leading to a general loss of interest from Yellowstone fans.
Another Yellowstone Spinoff Is Coming That Fans Should Enjoy More
It’s understandable that Marshals is getting off to a rocky start. This is the first show in the Yellowstone universe to air on a traditional network like CBS, instead of a streaming service. It’s also different in style from previous shows in the series. While Yellowstone and its prequels, 1883 and 1923, were intense and dramatic, Marshals feels more like a standard procedural drama, similar to shows like NCIS and Fire Country.
Good news for fans of Yellowstone: a new spinoff is coming that promises to feel more like the original series. Producer David Glasser recently hinted at what The Dutton Ranch – which will focus on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler – will be like.
The producer hinted that the show will continue to deliver intense action, saying it’s always full of violence and unexpected twists, and they’re constantly finding ways to make it even more dramatic.
New episodes of Marshals air Sundays on CBS.
