Even though Amazon may be done with The Wheel of Time series, other adaptations of Robert Jordan’s popular fantasy books are still possible. We likely haven’t seen the last of this story on screen.
Viewers were shocked when Amazon unexpectedly cancelled its live-action Wheel of Time series after three seasons. While some fans started a campaign to try and save the show, it wasn’t successful. Following the cancellation, the show’s creator, Rafe Judkins, suggested there might still be a way to continue the story on screen.
He admitted it wasn’t common, but acknowledged the possibility of The Wheel of Time continuing on another platform. He speculated the show might, like the books, blur the lines between beginnings and endings, and expressed his hope that the story would ultimately be completed for the sake of the series and its dedicated fans.
Fans of The Wheel of Time have reason to be excited again, even though the original live-action series isn’t continuing. According to Variety, new adaptations are in development, including a video game and both animated films and TV shows. These projects are being led by Thomas Vu, known for his work on Netflix’s Arcane and League of Legends. Vu’s Wheel of Time projects add to the existing plans from iwot Studios, which owns the rights to the franchise. iwot previously announced an animated prequel film, The White Tower, which has been in development for years, and a live-action prequel film called Age of Legends.
Vu believes there’s huge potential to build on The Wheel of Time by creating immersive stories across different platforms, including interactive and animated experiences. The rich world and detailed history of the series offer a strong base for long-term growth as a major franchise.
According to iwot CEO Rick Selvage, Thomas has a proven talent for turning stories into successful global franchises. His experience combining storytelling with technology and franchise building makes him the perfect person to help expand The Wheel of Time into exciting new formats. iwot is excited to collaborate with both Thomas and Anthony to bring the next installment of The Wheel of Time to viewers worldwide.

If you’re a fan of The Wheel of Time, this news is definitely promising, though it’s good to be cautiously optimistic. The project is being developed with Initiate Entertainment, led by Anthony Borquez, who also co-founded Grab Labs. Grab Labs focuses on using AI to change how media is created, which may worry some fans concerned about the increasing use of artificial intelligence in entertainment.

We have no idea if AI will be used in the upcoming Wheel of Time adaptations. However, the high cost of the live-action series likely contributed to its cancellation. Considering the number of projects iwot is planning, and their potential expense, using AI to cut costs would be disappointing, but understandable.
