New Ultraviolent War Movie With 94% RT Score Is Now Available On VOD

This intense war film received excellent reviews when it was released in November, earning it a high score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is now streaming for home viewing.

Following the success of the 2023 hit film Sisu, the sequel Sisu: Road to Revenge continues the story of Jorma Tommila’s unstoppable Finnish soldier facing off against Stephen Lang’s ruthless Red Army officer. Now, you can watch all the action from home, as the movie is available to rent or buy on demand.

Prime Video, Google Play, Apple TV and Fandango all have the Sisu sequel on offer, for $19.99.

The new film, Road to Revenge, opened in theaters on November 17th and earned $9.2 million, despite costing $12.2 million to make. The first Road to Revenge movie made $14.3 million with a production budget of $6.5 million.

The original film, Sisu, became a cult favorite thanks to positive reviews, earning a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel matched this success, also achieving a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a strong 88% audience approval rating.

Okay, so I just finished watching Road to Revenge, and everyone’s right – it’s even better than the first Sisu! The action sequences are incredible, seriously well done. People are saying it’s up there with movies like John Wick and Mad Max: Fury Road, and I totally get why. It’s unbelievably violent, but in a really over-the-top, almost cartoonish way. It reminded me of those old Looney Tunes cartoons, but with way more blood – and honestly, a little bit of Quentin Tarantino thrown in for good measure!

While some critics found the movie’s over-the-top violence excessive, even those who didn’t enjoy it acknowledged the film was well-made and moved at a very fast pace.

ScreenRant’s review of Sisu: Road to Revenge agrees with most critics, describing the action as incredibly intense and applauding the film’s simple, straightforward story.

The review praises the film’s climax, describing the scenes inside a speeding train as incredibly thrilling and suspenseful. While acknowledging that Sisu might not be as stylish as John Wick or as thought-provoking as Mad Max, the reviewer says it still delivers a gripping, intense experience.

I recently read an interview with Jalmari Helander, the director of Sisu: Road to Revenge, over on ScreenRant. He was talking about whether we might see a Sisu 3 after that pretty emotional ending in the second film, and he didn’t rule it out at all – which is great news for fans like me!

“I think this is a fitting and beautiful conclusion to Aatami Korpi’s story,” Helander stated. “However, you never know what the future holds, and I might come up with another idea for a third story someday. We’ll see what happens.”
