New true crime series to be the first unscripted offering from Acorn TV
As a seasoned gamer and true-crime enthusiast who’s seen more than a few unsolved mysteries in my favorite horror games, I must say that Acorn TV’s upcoming series, “Relative Secrets,” has piqued my interest significantly. While I wasn’t too familiar with Acorn TV before, the combination of true crime and genealogy has me hooked!
Acorn TV is expanding its horizons in the realm of unscripted entertainment by creating a show that combines elements of true crime and genealogy. If this sounds intriguing to you, here’s what you should know!
I’m always eager to delve deeper into the world of true crime, a topic that ranks high among my favorite genres, similar to horror. So when Deadline announced Acorn TV is developing an unscripted series in this area, I couldn’t help but pay close attention. Admittedly, up until now, I wasn’t well-versed with Acorn TV. I know a few of their shows, but I wouldn’t categorize myself as a dedicated viewer. However, this upcoming true crime/genealogy series might just make me a regular watcher.
According to the latest updates, it’s confirmed that Jane Seymour will be the host for the true crime series. Acorn TV viewers are already acquainted with Seymour from her role in their mystery drama, “Harry Wild.” It’s exciting to see that she has experience in the mystery genre, which suggests that the reality series is in capable hands. Apart from “Harry Wild,” Seymour also played Bond Girl Solitaire in “Live and Let Die,” and she’s also recognized for her roles in “Dr. Quinn” and “Medicine Woman.
Speaking about her hosting role, Seymour expressed her excitement for the forthcoming series.
…in addition to solving cleverly crafted mysteries on Harry Wild, I get the chance to uncover real family unknowns. As we all know, reality is often much stranger than fiction – I can’t wait to dive in.
Relative Secrets synopsis
The title of the Acorn TV reality series is “Family Secrets Unveiled,” and it delves into the past of various American families (a new one in each episode). These families harbor some suspicions about their ancestry, but few would have anticipated the shocking secrets that this investigation brings to light.
The summary provided by Deadline hints that American families will discover their British roots. A 99-year-old World War II veteran, who was also a participant in the war, may uncover the truth behind his grandmother’s murder. Another intriguing tidbit: the background of a serial killer’s daughter will be explored. This series promises to keep you on the edge of your seat!
Seymour is set to collaborate with archaeologist Natasha Billson, known from “The Great British Dig”. This marks Acorn TV’s initial foray into unscripted programming. Could this be the start of a series of such productions in the future?
