New true-crime series explores murder from an unlikely perspective
In this innovative true-crime video series titled “Mothers of Perpetrators“, produced by Best, we delve into the challenges and societal scrutiny endured by mothers whose offspring have perpetrated heinous acts.
On Nick Ferrari’s show, four women are featured who have children that have been found guilty of committing murder.
On Tuesday, February 4th, the initial episode will feature a comprehensive conversation with Elizabeth De Zoysa, whose son Louis (currently dealing with brain damage) is imprisoned under a whole-life sentence for the murder of Police Officer Sergeant Matt Ratana.
One question underlying the series is: how do you go on when your child becomes a murderer?
In the interview, Elizabeth expresses, “If you have a child, nobody tells you that you can only love them if they follow a specific path. I wouldn’t have given up my baby back then, and I certainly wouldn’t do so now.
In the show, every mother grapples with societal scrutiny due to crimes they didn’t commit, navigating their own journeys amidst the fallout.
Elizabeth went on to say, “Some of my friends found it difficult to interact with me. Some even accused me… Yet others showed great understanding. As a mother, I’ve been reflecting on whether I could have handled situations differently.
You ponder over ways you might have improved, and I wasn’t eager to hear those suggestions coming from friends. (Or) Reflecting on what I may have done differently, I didn’t relish the thought of hearing it pointed out by friends.
Mums of Murderers will be on Best’s YouTube channel from 6am on Tuesday 4 February.
