Since the beginning of Transformers toys, many versions have been released with slightly different colors or designs. Some of these repaints have even become popular characters, and now one company is reimagining a lesser-known Autobot.
The H71Y Dick toy from Newage Toys is a new color scheme of their earlier “Dick” figure. That original figure was inspired by the classic Generation 1 Sideswipe, but wasn’t officially licensed. This version is based on Tigertrack, a lesser-known Sideswipe recolor with origins in the Diaclone line. It includes the same accessories and transforms into the same vehicle. New Sideswipe Redeco Represents One of the Most Obscure Transformers of All Time
H71Y Dick is a recolor of a toy originally designed as Sideswipe, a classic Autobot. It comes with the same accessories: three pairs of interchangeable hands, a gun, and a shoulder-mounted missile launcher. This version also includes a drill and a functional jetpack that’s compatible with other figures from the same line.
Dedicated fans will immediately notice this toy’s colors are based on Tigertrack, a less common Transformer. The original Tigertrack came out in 2003, but it was simply a recolored version of the classic Sideswipe figure. Instead of Sideswipe’s red, black, and white, Tigertrack features yellow with black racing stripes, making him look more like Sideswipe’s twin brother, Sunstreaker.
Tigertrack’s yellow coloring is a nod to the original G1 Sideswipe toy, which was initially released as part of Takara’s Diaclone line. Like the vintage action figure, Tigertrack transforms from a robot into a vehicle resembling the Lamborghini Countach LP500S – though it’s not officially licensed.
These toys are carefully designed to look just like the original versions, similar to the high-quality Transformers: Masterpiece line. They’re also sized to fit in with the official toys from the Transformers Legends series by Takara Tomy. While it’s not yet clear exactly when this version of Dick will be released by , it’s anticipated to be available sometime between early and mid-2026.
