New Thunderbolts trailer finally solves long-running MCU mystery

As a lifelong Marvel fan who’s been following the MCU since its inception, I must say, the new Thunderbolts* trailer has left me absolutely thrilled! The team-up of these anti-heroes is something I never thought I’d see on the big screen.

Marvel’s new Thunderbolts* trailer just solved a long-running MCU mystery.

In the upcoming blockbuster, an ensemble of unconventional heroes – featuring Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, John Walker, Ghost, and Taskmaster – will unite under orders from government operative Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, for a task assigned to them.

Not only does the latest trailer offer a sneak peek at the superhero alliance, it also hints that Fontaine has taken over Avengers Tower from the late Tony Stark, who formerly owned it.

She poses a thought-provoking question to her team upon reaching the tower: “Isn’t it fascinating to consider all the significant battles that took place right here?” She then adds, “Sure, it wasn’t inexpensive, but it offers excellent vantage points.

In another part of the trailer, Red Guardian, Yelena, John, and Taskmaster engage in a thrilling high-speed automobile pursuit. It seems like Bucky is there to help when he eliminates the convoy chasing them, but surprisingly, he begins firing at his teammates instead.

“That’s not good,” Yelena remarks, as Bucky aims his weapon.

In this upcoming project, we find Florence Pugh once more portraying the character of Yelena, joined by David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell playing the part of John Walker.

In the upcoming film “Top Gun: Maverick,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus assumes the character of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, while Lewis Pullman portrays the role of Bob, who is also known as Sentry.

In September, it became official that the movie’s title includes an asterisk at the end. However, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige stated that he won’t reveal the significance of this asterisk until after the film has been premiered.

However, some fans have been speculating about what it could represent…

Thunderbolts* is released in cinemas on May 2, 2025.
