With the upcoming release of Avengers: Doomsday later this year and Avengers: Secret Wars planned to conclude the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga the following year, some recent news is strengthening my leading idea about what’s next for Chris Hemsworth’s Thor.
The upcoming movie, Avengers: Doomsday, will heavily feature Thor, as seen in the recent teaser where he’s shown praying to Odin before a major battle. While Doomsday will be a significant part of Thor’s story, it seems it won’t be the end of it, potentially setting him up for a key role in the Secret Wars movie.
Thor’s MCU Future After Avengers: Doomsday Has Pretty Much Been Confirmed
While promoting his new film, Crime 101, Mark Ruffalo hinted that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor might be in the upcoming Secret Wars movie. This week, Hemsworth himself confirmed on the Smartless Podcast that he’s discussed and planned for Thor to appear in future projects a few more times after Doomsday.
I spoke with Kevin Feige, and he mentioned that audiences are now used to big surprises when it comes to this character. He also said they have some exciting and original ideas for what’s coming next, and they’re hoping to do something truly different.
Although this has fans looking forward to a possible Thor 5, it’s likely one of the exciting things we’re seeing hints of is Secret Wars, planned for 2027. If that’s the case, we can get an idea of what Thor might do in the big finale of the Multiverse Saga by looking at the 2015 Secret Wars comic book event.
Will Avengers: Secret Wars Debut A Live-Action Thor Corps?
In the comics, Doctor Doom created a realm called Battleworld, a collection of broken realities, and kept order with his Thor Corps – a team of different versions of Thor who acted as his enforcers during the 2015 Secret Wars storyline. A live-action version of the Thor Corps would be a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Multiverse Saga comes to a close. Just picture Chris Hemsworth portraying multiple unique versions of Thor, something we haven’t seen before!
We still don’t know exactly what’s going to happen in Avengers: Doomsday or how closely Avengers: Secret Wars will follow the comic books. But the idea of seeing a live-action Thor Corps is really exciting, and it gives fans something fun to speculate about while we wait for the next Avengers movies and to see what’s next for Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Studios will release Avengers: Doomsday in theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
