New Switch Joy-Con charging stand hints Switch 2 leaks may be correct
As a long-time Nintendo Switch fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but be intrigued by the sudden announcement of the Joy-Con Charging Stand (two-way) from Nintendo. Seven and a half years into the console’s life, with rumors swirling around the upcoming release of “Switch 2,” this simple accessory feels like an unexpected yet welcome addition to my gaming setup.
Surprisingly, Nintendo introduced a fresh accessory for the Switch console last Thursday, which has left many people puzzled. This announcement came seven and a half years into the Switch’s lifespan, with rumors of a new model, “Switch 2,” on the horizon.
As someone who is an avid gamer and proud owner of a Nintendo Switch, I can’t help but be excited about the latest addition to my gaming setup: the Joy-Con Charging Stand (two-way). This simple yet effective piece of equipment has already become an essential tool in my gaming life.
A two-sided Joy-Con Charging Station, specifically designed for recharging Joy-Con controllers and NES controllers for the Nintendo Switch, will be available starting October 17th.

As someone who has been a long-time fan of Nintendo and their innovative gaming peripherals, I find myself pondering over the recent announcement of their latest addition: the new stand for the Nintendo Switch. With the Switch nearing the end of its life cycle, I can’t help but wonder why Nintendo chose to release this accessory now?
Nintendo currently offers charging stands for Joy-Cons made by trusted third-party manufacturers like Hori and PowerA. Since these stands can charge four Joy-Cons at once, Nintendo may have deemed it unnecessary to produce their own version with the same functionality.
The reason for this move is still uncertain, but some theories suggest that Nintendo’s decision to take down the game could be a crucial step in preparing for the launch of its next console, potentially revealing some of its anticipated features through leaks.
In April, news emerged that the new Joy-Cons for Switch 2 would adhere to the console magnetically, instead of utilizing the sliding rail mechanism present in the current model. However, it was also mentioned that the old Joy-Cons for Switch would continue to work with the new console.
As a gamer, if I’m unable to connect my old Joy-Cons to my fresh new console for charging, I’d simply use Nintendo’s official Joy-Con Charging Stand with a two-way connection instead.
There could be valid reasons from Nintendo’s perspective for producing their own Joy-Con charging solution at this point, even if they may not publicly acknowledge it.
Maybe Nintendo mentioned that the new stand could double as a charger for their classic NES controllers for Switch. This suggestion is particularly relevant given the upcoming launch of Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. However, it would be more convenient if the charging stand was available sooner than three months from now.
As a curious gamer, I ponder if this seemingly ordinary accessory might drop some clues about the upcoming Switch 2’s advanced features. But alas, we’ll only know for sure when Nintendo officially unveils their next-gen console, which they’ve promised to do before the end of their fiscal year in March 2025.
