New Star Wars trilogy to be headed by Simon Kinberg
As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vast and intricate worlds of various games, I can say that my expectations for the new Star Wars trilogy under Simon Kinberg are as high as the Millennium Falcon flying at lightspeed. The prospect of a fresh storyline, with new characters to love (or hate) and exciting adventures to embark on, is music to any gamer’s ears.
It’s fair to say that Disney and Lucasfilm’s management of the Star Wars intellectual property has been underwhelming, to put it mildly. Since the controversial sequel trilogy concluded in 2019 with Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, the franchise seems to have lost its way, lacking a clear direction.
The franchise’s shows on Disney+ have received a varied reaction, with some, like Andor and The Mandalorian, generally well-received, whereas The Acolyte was discontinued following only one season.
Currently, Lucasfilm is working on several Star Wars projects at present; however, the only definite plans as of now are for The Mandalorian and Grogu, a production penned by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, set to air in May 2026.
Additionally, there’s a forthcoming Star Wars film called “New Jedi Order,” featuring Daisy Ridley’s Rey, as well as an unnamed “Dawn of the Jedi” movie directed by James Mangold, and another titled “New Republic” from Dave Filoni. The release dates for these films are yet to be announced, and their production status is currently unknown.
Currently, Lucasfilm is aiming to launch a fresh Star Wars trilogy, distinct from the Skywalker saga. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Simon Kinberg has agreed on a contract to pen and produce a new Star Wars movie trilogy.
The report indicates that Lucasfilm anticipates this trilogy will pave a novel direction for the Star Wars sci-fi space opera saga, an advancement that I believe is long overdue given the current state of the galaxy in the series feels somewhat repetitive with familiar characters and narratives. This upcoming trilogy might just be the refreshing change the franchise has been yearning for a very long time.
According to various reports, Kinberg’s upcoming film is not a continuation of the Skywalker storyline. Instead, it will introduce fresh characters and an entirely new plot. However, it’s possible that some previously known characters might make an appearance, given Lucasfilm’s tendency to include beloved characters as cameos in their productions.
Regardless of the challenging period that Star Wars is currently going through, there are compelling reasons to look forward to Kinberg’s upcoming trilogy. For instance, he has previously dabbled in the Star Wars universe, jointly creating Star Wars: Rebels with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck. This highly acclaimed Emmy-nominated animated series spanned four seasons from 2014 to 2018. Additionally, he served as a consultant on The Force Awakens, which was released in 2015.
Apart from “Star Wars”, Kinberg has also worked as a producer on Fox’s “Logan” and the first two “Deadpool” films. Each of these movies were massive triumphs, both critically and financially. With such an impressive portfolio behind him, are you eager to see what Kinberg might contribute to the “Star Wars” series?
