New Siobhan Finneran and James Norton dramas help ITV gain impressive first-time streaming record

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel thrilled about my recent binge-watching sessions on ITVX. The platform has broken its own records this time around, all thanks to the fresh batch of gripping dramas and the return of some beloved favorites. It’s a win for both ITVX and us viewers!

For the very first time, the broadcaster reported reaching a new peak by streaming over one billion times during a single three-month period.

As a devoted admirer, I must express my awe over the outstanding performances of James Norton in “Playing Nice” and Siobhan Finneran in “Protection”. These captivating productions have truly shone on the streaming platform, securing spots as ITV’s second and third most successful dramas ever, trailing only behind the legendary “Mr. Bates vs the Post Office”.

The sixth series of the show “Unforgotten” has done exceptionally well, as ITV declared it to be “the top-performing return drama on any traditional TV or streaming service in 2021.

During the past quarter, drama content was viewed more than 300 million times, accounting for approximately one-third of all views on ITVX.

In the recent quarter, we saw a 22% increase in streaming entertainment content over the same period last year, largely due to popular shows such as “The 1% Club”, “The Masked Singer”, and “Britain’s Got Talent”.

Viewership for soap operas increased by 35% more than the previous year’s first quarter, primarily because episodes were released early at 7am. However, it is important to note that only “Coronation Street” and “Emmerdale” are included in this total count, which amounts to approximately 124 million streams.

In the meantime, “Love Island: All Stars” stood out with an impressive 100 million individual streams, making it the top title of the year and the most popular choice among viewers aged 16 to 34.

Kevin Lygo, ITV’s leader, stated, ‘Our diverse lineup, consistently delivering high-quality dramas, top-notch Saturday night entertainment, major live sports events, and strong soap operas, among other genres, is what has propelled us to an exceptional quarter.’

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
