The intriguing psychological thriller titled “The Girlfriend” on Prime Video has received a fresh new development.
Featuring Robin Wright from “House of Cards” and Olivia Cooke from “House of the Dragon,” this drama series centers around Robin’s character, Laura, who experiences a disruption in her life when her son Daniel (Laurie Davidson) introduces his girlfriend Cherry (Cooke) to their household.
According to the summary, Laura’s seemingly flawless life starts to crumble when Daniel introduces Cherry, a girlfriend who alters everything. Following an awkward encounter, Laura grows suspicious that Cherry is concealing secrets.
Is Laura seen as a strategic networker striving for higher status, or is it simply her being overly suspicious? Ultimately, the reality depends on one’s viewpoint.
According to the television adaptation of Michelle Frances’ book with the same title, it has officially been announced when viewers worldwide can start streaming the entire series, which consists of six episodes, beginning on September 10th, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Apart from announcing when it will be available, the streaming platform has unveiled some initial photos and even a promotional trailer for the upcoming series titled “The Girlfriend“.
In the pictures, Wright’s Laura and Daniel (by Davidson) are seen affectionately hugging, whereas Cooke’s character appears suspicious in another shot.
Here’s another option:
In the images, we observe a warm hug between Wright’s Laura and Daniel (Davidson’s creation), while Cooke’s character gives off a shifty vibe in a separate picture.
And here’s one more:
The pictures show Wright’s Laura and Davidson’s Daniel exchanging a loving embrace, whereas Cooke’s character portrays an air of suspicion in another snapshot.
Completing the ensemble are actors such as Waleed Zuaiter, Tayna Moodie, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Karen Henthorn, Anna Chancellor, Leo Suter, and Francesca Corney.
In their critique, The Sunday Mirror labeled the source novel as “an intricately plotted, witty, eerie, and captivating tale.

In the meantime, Booklist observed a similarity between the novel and Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl, commenting: “Everyone will enjoy the suspense and twist that unfolds with each turn of events as they attempt to unmask the culprit and uncover the truth, right up to the unexpected finale.
Based on what we’ve seen in the sneak peek, it seems like “The Girlfriend” will be an engaging series packed with surprises and unexpected plot developments that you won’t want to miss watching one after another.
The Girlfriend will premiere on Prime Video on 10 September.
