New releases are here! Here's what you can stream this week (Aug. 5 - Aug. 9)

As a longtime fan of both superhero series and dance reality shows, I must say August is shaping up to be a month full of excitement! With my DVR already set for the final season of “The Umbrella Academy” on Netflix, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions. On one hand, I’m eagerly anticipating the thrilling ride that lies ahead, but on the other, I dread the thought of saying goodbye to this extraordinary group of dysfunctional superheroes.

I’m thrilled to say that August is shaping up wonderfully in terms of streaming content, and I can hardly wait! Personally, I’m eagerly anticipating the premiere of The Umbrella Academy season 4, as it marks the final chapter for this Netflix series. Additionally, there’s a dose of real-life drama on the horizon with the arrival of Dance Moms: A New Era.

Hey there, fellow gamer and Apple TV+ enthusiast! If you’ve been hooked on the captivating world of Sunny or lost in the thrilling sci-fi journey of Time Bandits, here’s some fantastic news straight from my gaming lair: Fresh episodes are dropping this very week! And guess what? There’s a whole lot more to get excited about coming your way too. Let me spill the beans below!

Dance Moms: A New Era

Premieres Wednesday, Aug. 7 on Hulu

Get acquainted with the new lead dance coach, Glo Hampton, replacing Abby Lee Miller, in the revamped series Dance Moms: A New Beginning. The Studio Bleu dance school will now be under the spotlight as Glo takes center stage with her team of dancers. This time around, both the coach and the group of girls and their mothers are fresh faces ready to strive for national competitions every week, according to the show’s synopsis.

Coach Glo faces quite a challenge, as she juggles her small yet powerful team of dancers, their manipulative mothers, and frequent outbursts, all while maintaining a compassionate yet firm leadership style. On Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, you can catch every episode on Hulu, but the number of episodes for this season has not been disclosed beforehand by the streaming service.

The Umbrella Academy season 4

Premieres Thursday, Aug. 8 on Netflix

As a long-time fan of The Umbrella Academy, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and sadness as we approach the final season. Having followed the adventures of these unique superheroes since the beginning, their world has become a part of my life, and it’s hard to imagine saying goodbye. However, I also know that this jam-packed ride is going to be one for the books – with only six episodes in season 4, I expect every moment to count and deliver an explosive conclusion to the series. As a fan who has grown up alongside these characters, I can’t wait to see how it all ends on Netflix, Thursday, Aug. 8.

In the fourth season of “The Umbrella Academy,” the Hargreeves siblings are faced with their final opportunity to save the world. Can they pull it off, even without their powers? I’m confident they can. The trailer hints at them regaining their abilities. Here is the official synopsis from Netflix:

The Hargreeves siblings have scattered after the climactic showdown at the Hotel Oblivion led to a complete reset of their timeline. Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal — with wildly varying degrees of success. Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long. Their father Reginald, alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire. A mysterious association known asThe Keepersholds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie and a great reckoning is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time — and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure — to finally set things right.

The main actors in this series are Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Colm Feore, Nick Offerman, Megan Mullally, and David Cross.
