New PS5 beta features include more remote play and audio settings
As a long-time PlayStation 5 user and beta tester, I’m thrilled about the latest update coming our way. This new feature set is particularly exciting for me as it addresses specific pain points I’ve experienced in my shared household.
For PlayStation 5 users enrolled in the beta testing program, there’s a treat in store for you this Thursday. You’ll gain access to an update sporting fresh add-ons for Remote Play and 3D audio on your PS5. These enhancements appear tailored to families sharing a single console.
As a dedicated gamer and proud owner of a PS5, I’ve grown particularly fond of the Remote Play feature. This recent update comes as a breath of fresh air for me, catering to a specific need that many Remote Play users, like myself, have been yearning for.
In our household, my wife and I share the use of the PS5. However, I’m the one who takes advantage of the PS5 Remote Play feature. I utilize it frequently on my Steam Deck. Surprisingly, you can make PS5 Remote Play function on a Steam Deck even when not connected to your home internet. It’s a challenging setup process, but achievable. This capability could prove quite handy in unique situations, such as households with numerous users relying on Remote Play, including those who are away from home.
I’ve had my fair share of experiences with technology-related breakups, and I can tell you, it’s never a pleasant feeling. Just like that time when my ex changed the Netflix password without telling me, taking away my access to my favorite shows. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, especially when it comes to something as personal as our gaming console.
As someone who shares a PS5 console with my family members, I’m thrilled to hear about the upcoming beta updates for 3D audio profiles. This feature is a game-changer for us because we each use our own set of PS5 headphones for an immersive gaming experience. The ability to customize individual 3D audio profiles ensures that each person’s preferences are respected, enhancing our shared enjoyment of games on the console. I can’t wait to try it out!
The PlayStation blog post reveals that your PS5 console can develop a unique 3D audio profile tailored specifically for you. By undergoing a series of sound tests, the system will assess various factors to generate an optimal audio setting based on your distinct hearing abilities.
In this video, you’ll get an insight into how those sound tests are conducted and the various choices you have. To access these settings, navigate to [Settings] > [Sound] > [3D Audio (Headphones)].
In addition, those with the latest PS5 model and are part of the beta program will gain access to adaptive charging for their controllers. This feature automatically adjusts the charging duration according to the controller’s battery level, conserving power.
