The new prison drama, Waiting for the Out, has released its first trailer. It follows a philosopher named Dan who begins teaching classes to inmates and unexpectedly uncovers secrets about his own life.
The new film, Waiting for the Out, features Josh Finan as Dan and offers a first look at his experiences beginning his time in prison with a newly released trailer.
Dan began his class by being wryly welcomed as if to a prison, and then led a discussion with the inmates about concepts like power, liberty, and chance.

“However, through his work, Dan begins to dig deeper into his own past,” the synopsis teases.
My dad, Gerard Kearns, spent time in prison, and unfortunately, it wasn’t just him. My brother, Lee – Stephen Wight plays him – also ended up behind bars, as did my uncle Frank, played by Phil Daniels. It’s a tough family history, to say the least.

Although Dan’s life has led him to a new job working in a prison, he starts to become consumed with the fear that he might be destined for the same fate as his family and end up incarcerated as well.
The story follows Dan as his personal struggles worsen, and his choices start to put his future and the well-being of his family at risk.
Adapted by Utopia‘s Dennis Kelly, the series is inspired by Andy West’s memoir The Life Inside.
It’s common for men in Andy West’s family to be incarcerated, but Andy is unique – he willingly chose to go to prison, as Kelly explained when the project was first revealed in May (according to the BBC).
The book is hilarious, thought-provoking, and beautifully written – it’s also surprisingly emotional. We really aimed to capture all of that in the series. Whether we’ve managed to do it is another question, but we definitely gave it our best shot.

Cast for the series is rounded out by Sex Education star Samantha Spiro as Dan’s mother.
The actors participating as prisoners in Dan’s classes include Alex Ferns from Andor, Francis Lovehall from A Thousand Blows, Josef Altin from Top Boy, Steven Meo from House of the Dragon, and Nima Taleghani from Heartstopper. Ric Renton, Tom Moutchi, Sule Rimi, and Charlie Rix are also involved.
Also starring are Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo, Sophia Brown, Neal Barry and Jude Mack.
The new drama, Waiting for the Out, begins on BBC One on January 3rd at 9:30 PM. You can also watch all episodes on BBC iPlayer starting the same day.
