New Predator Design Sparks Mixed Fan Reactions After ‘Badlands’ Trailer

Fans of the Predator series have been eagerly speculating for months about how director [Director’s Name] would meet the high expectations set by the unconventional simplicity of Prey. The long-awaited trailer for the upcoming movie, titled Predator: Badlands, has finally dropped, and it’s clear that it delivers a surprising take on the franchise. Steering the series in an unprecedented new direction, Predator: Badlands appears to offer high-octane action, hints of an impending Alien franchise crossover, and a striking redesign of the Predator character that fans are already expressing their opinions about.

the lower jaw extends more, the forehead is smoother, and the mask fits snugly to a slimmer skull, making the fearsome creature appear almost human. This has left some viewers puzzled, thinking that the character they were watching was not actually a Predator until the face was unveiled. Some people enjoy this fresh perspective, while others express disappointment at the idea of altering something after nearly 40 years – because change is never necessary, right?

In my perspective, the reactions varied from “Hollywood still hasn’t nailed the likeness since the original” to someone expressing affection for the fresh, youthful version, stating “He appears so much younger and adorable compared to past predators.” But, I must admit, I wouldn’t dare to share a French kiss with this young and cute clawed creature, would you? Yet, it’s worth noting that fans are rarely content these days, as someone else astutely pointed out.

Does It Matter the Predator Has Another New Look?

The first Predator movie was created during a time when production studios devoted significant effort to meticulously crafting their creature characters from scratch. Real artists, human beings, would labor for days, weeks, or even months perfecting designs through sketching, refining, and reworking them until the final product was distinctive, aesthetically pleasing, and feasible to construct without relying on computer-generated imagery (CGI).

In the process of expanding established franchises, the question often arises: should we stick to the original formula or make modifications? For instance, the appearance of characters like Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees have undergone changes in different appearances, and sometimes, the design of Jason’s mask seems to alter unexpectedly. Not all changes serve the story; some are made impulsively. Case in point: remember the iconic Batman nipples?

In contrast to some people’s dislike for the design of the Predator in “Prey”, the movie called for a more primal appearance for the creature that Arnold Schwarzenegger faced in 1987. Similarly, the Predator in “Badlands” needed a more youthful version, leading to alterations in the typical image of the ruthless killing machine. Director Dan Trachtenberg aimed to reimagine, rather than simply replicate, the Predator franchise with “Badlands”, and it appears that he is indeed doing so – once again – by delivering something fresh and new.

Following the criminal oversight of not showcasing Prey in cinemas, Trachtenberg now has an opportunity with Badlands to demonstrate that much like the revival of the Alien franchise through Romulus, there remains a substantial audience eager for the Predator’s return on the big screen. The outcome will be unveiled in November.
