The latest Overwatch 2 comic, featuring Freja, shows her tracking down Emre. During her search, readers get a glimpse of Emre’s updated appearance and discover what he’s been doing with the Talon organization.

Blizzard recently shared a video about the new Overwatch 2 comic, “Search & Destroy,” which focuses on the character Emre Sarioglu. The comic was narrated by Olivia Le Andersen, who provides the voice for the hero Freja.

Is Emre joining Overwatch 2 as a new hero?

So, I was reading an interview with Aaron Keller, the game director for Overwatch 2, and he talked about how they’re planning to build the story going forward. Basically, they want new heroes to really connect with what’s already happened in the Overwatch universe and use them to drive the narrative. He mentioned the recent “Search & Destroy” comic with Emre, and how his connections to Freja and villains like Reaper, Mauga, and Widowmaker from Talon could be a hint of where things are headed. The comic reveals that Emre, after leaving Overwatch years ago, started working for Talon. However, Talon eventually lost contact with him, and Maximilien tasked Freja with finding him. Her investigation led her to Moira, and the two discussed how almost ten years had passed since Emre’s departure from Overwatch. It turns out Emre had issues with the Overwatch strike team’s relaxed rules and even encouraged Freja to get to know Sojourn.

Moira noted the strange situation of them now working for Talon. She described Emre as someone who was cold, calculating, and didn’t hesitate to be ruthless. Encouraged by Moira to delve into her past, Freja recalled admiring Emre and how approachable he had been with everyone, including the support staff. They had even shared a meal with his family.

I’ve been following the “Search & Destroy” comic, and it’s getting really interesting! It showed how Freja started digging into the jobs Emre was doing for Talon. She found out about Moira’s mission in Burkhala – it wasn’t just about genetic research, there was something else going on. She even crossed paths with Mauga, who apparently helped Emre sneak into a place in Guatemala. Freja also questioned Widowmaker, and it turns out Emre has this habit of vanishing for short periods during Talon ops, then just showing back up. It’s making me wonder what he’s really up to!

Reaper was Freja’s last contact. He told her that the Emre who had been with him on the Luanda mission had changed, and didn’t seem like the person he used to know.

“Emre had turned into a ruthless killer,” Freja observed. “He showed no regret, no feeling… and there wasn’t any obvious reason for his actions. It just didn’t add up. What had changed him? What was I overlooking?”

Freja discovered a hidden Helix base in Kinshasa and realized Emre’s missions were linked to satellite control centers that tracked worldwide security and helped Overwatch analyze information. She observed that unlike the rest of the strike team, Emre valued support staff, and the data found at these bases didn’t align with Talon’s objectives.

I was following the investigation and it hit me – every command center Emre targeted with his Talon jobs was within range… except for one. When we checked the security logs for that location, we found a bunch of small, repeated breaches. It was like someone was checking things out, scouting for a bigger attack. I just had to see for myself, so I flew straight to Riyadh to investigate.

When Emre arrived, the locals immediately branded him a monster. After the fighting stopped, he stepped out of the smoke, but Freja didn’t see a terrifying creature. She just saw Emre, a person like any other.

“The hunt continues in Overwatch 2,” Freja said.
