New Overwatch 2 6v6 experiment now live: 6v6 Min 1, Max 3 game mode

The latest Overwatch 2 6v6 experiment is now live! Here’s how the Min 1, Max 3 mode works and more.

According to what game director Aaron Keller mentioned earlier, the much-anticipated Overwatch 2 six-versus-six (6v6) event has just gone live! This time around, it’s called the 6v6 Min 1, Max 3 mode, which is a variation from the previous experimental game format.

Overwatch 2 6v6 Min 1, Max 3 release date

From January 21st to February 4th, Overwatch 2 will feature a team-based game mode called “6v6 Min 1, Max 3”. To join this mode during these dates, players should navigate to the main menu, click on “Play”, then select the “Unranked” card and choose the “Minimum One 6v6” option.

How Overwatch 2 6v6 Min 1, Max 3 works

As a gamer, I’d describe it like this: Picture this game mode as an Open Queue, but with a few house rules. Essentially, each team requires at least one player in every role to keep things balanced. Yet, no more than three players can be in the same role. To illustrate, let me give you an example from our recent screenshots: Our team consisted of one tank, three damage dealers, and two support characters.

In your team setup, you could opt for a maximum of three tanks or three support characters. The arrangement is flexible, allowing for various combinations. You may also modify roles during gameplay, as far as it adheres to the Min 1, Max 3 composition rules. For illustration, our attached screenshot exhibits two tanks, two damage-dealing characters, and two support heroes.

In terms of gameplay, the goals remain consistent with standard Overwatch 2 matches. What sets it apart is that you can collaborate with your team to choose a hero lineup tailored to the map that’s randomly selected for you. For instance, if you find yourself on Ilios Well, you could opt for heroes like Roadhog and Lucio to engage in some fun maneuvers around the control point, such as Roadhog’s pull and Lucio’s boop abilities.
