A new action hero who loves dogs and seeks revenge has emerged, challenging even John Wick. The star of The Dark Knight is taking on this role, continuing his trend of starring in classic, straightforward action thrillers with an upcoming sequel.
The first trailer for the action thriller Muzzle: City of Wolves is out now, hinting at a violent story of revenge. The film continues the story from 2023’s Muzzle, following ex-cop Jake Rosser as he tries to find peace and overcome his struggles. But, inevitably, he’s pulled back into action, forced to team up with his loyal K-9 partner when a dangerous gang comes after him.
Directed by John Stalberg Jr. and written by Jacob Michael King, the film Muzzle: City of Wolves stars Tanya van Graan, Karl Thaning, Nicole Fortuin, Adrian Collins, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and Aaron Eckhart. It will be released in theaters on November 14, 2025. You can watch the trailer and read the official story details below.
Jake Rosser, a former K-9 officer, struggles with PTSD and is trying to build a quiet life with his family and his retired police dog, Socks. That peace is shattered when a violent gang attacks them. To protect his family, Jake teams up with a new K-9 partner, Argos, and gets pulled into a dangerous criminal world. He faces corrupt officials, exposes a dangerous drug operation, and battles his own personal struggles along the way.
‘Muzzle: City of Wolves’ Promises to Continue the Throwback Action Movie Delights of Its Predecessor
The movie Muzzle, which came out in 2023, stars Aaron Eckhart as a Los Angeles police officer investigating a large-scale conspiracy with the help of his police dog. While critics were split – giving it a 36% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – audiences generally enjoyed the film’s old-school action style, awarding it a 67% score.
Okay, so critics were definitely charmed by the dog in Muzzle, but a lot of them found the movie itself to be a bit of a messy, forgettable experience. However, Alan Ng over at Film Threat really dug it, calling it a fresh and gritty take on the classic broken cop/dog duo. What’s really interesting is how audiences are responding. They love the dog, of course, but they’re also appreciating that Muzzle feels like an old-school, hard-boiled detective story. I saw one five-star review simply saying it was “excellent for all dog lovers!” But beyond that, a lot of viewers are praising the film for being straightforward and avoiding what they see as forced social commentary. One user called it a “solid film making” with “gritty performances that feel true to life,” and another said it’s “the movie we need right now.” It seems like a lot of people are craving a simple, no-nonsense story, and Muzzle is delivering that.
I’ve noticed Aaron Eckhart’s been in a lot of really fun, straightforward action movies lately. I’ve enjoyed films like Line of Duty, Rumble Through the Dark, The Bricklayer, and Classified, and his newest one, Muzzle: City of Wolves, seems to fit right in with that vibe.
