New Netflix thriller lands near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes rating
In the first person: Praise for “Rebel Ridge”, a gripping thriller that masterfully explores themes of conflict and tension, starting with a small act and gradually building momentum, never taking an obvious path, until it culminates in a natural yet gigantic conclusion.
New Netflix thriller Rebel Ridge has landed a near-perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In the film directed by Jeremy Saulnier, we follow the character Terry Richmond, played by Aaron Pierre, who has his funds for bailing out his relative unfairly taken by a crooked local law enforcement. As a result, Terry starts to unearth a vast web of corruption
Rebel Ridge has largely been a hit with critics, earning a 95% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but express my awe for the electrifying thrills and satisfying conclusion this movie delivered. Moreover, Pierre’s acting left me spellbound – even if some critics didn’t share my enthusiasm for his performance
Here’s what they’ve been saying:
The Wrap
“Rebel Ridge is an exceptional work of drama and suspense, a captivating crime novel that starts small and steadily gains speed without following predictable routes. It subtly escalates the tension until reaching a massive yet organic finale.”
Collider
It’s challenging to discover a film this year as tough and action-packed as “Rebel Ridge” directed by Jeremy Saulnier. This gripping thriller combines elements of films like “Rambo” and “Reacher,” but it’s entirely unique due to the outstanding performance of Aaron Pierre. With a swagger that takes no prisoners, it storms into town, delivers some heavy blows, and then departs with only minor bruises
SlashFilm
“Rebel Ridge magnificently highlights the talents of its director and lead actor. Saulnier excels in his craft, as does Pierre, and their combined efforts have led to a powerfully dynamic outcome. Be sure not to overlook Rebel Ridge among the Netflix offerings.”
Flickering Myth
Aaron Pierre exudes an effortless charisma, managing to maintain his humanity despite being placed in embarrassing predicaments. Additionally, he possesses a certain ‘IT’ quality that adds a thrilling sense of release during the intense final confrontation
Slant Magazine
Jeremy Saulnier’s movie “Rebel Ridge” is an exhilarating race thriller and, for the most part, it delivers just as powerfully as any other in its genre
The Hollywood Reporter
“Rebel Ridge just about meets the standard of being functional and engaging. It boasts an attractive visual style, but unfortunately, the movie itself is as uninteresting as that distant horizon.”
Rebel Ridge is released on Netflix on September 6.
