The beloved comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000 is making a comeback! RiffTrax and Shout! Studios are joining forces to create four new episodes, planned for release by the end of 2026—almost 38 years after the show first aired. To help fund this exciting project, which will include completely new sets and props, RiffTrax started a Kickstarter campaign that has already far exceeded its $20,000 goal, proving just how enthusiastic fans are.
Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett – the original stars of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) – are returning to the show! According to Variety, Nelson will once again host, with Murphy and Corbett reprising their roles as the robot characters Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot. Mary Jo Pehl is also back as Pearl Forrester. The team will not only perform but also lead the creative direction of the new episodes, which will be known as Mystery Science Theater 3000: The RiffTrax Experiments.

The new episodes of MST3K: The RiffTrax Experiments will be made no matter how much money is raised, but contributions from backers will directly fund key production elements like set and prop construction, movie licensing, editing, improving the robots, and compensating the crew. Originally, the MST3K team aimed to raise $20,000 to celebrate RiffTrax’s 20th anniversary, and the campaign has proven incredibly successful, demonstrating the show’s dedicated fanbase.
As of today, the “RiffTrax Makes MST3K! – For NEW episodes in 2026!” campaign has received $1,098,859 from 8,748 supporters. With 41 days left until March 16th, it will be exciting to see how much money the project ultimately raises. More funding will allow for higher production quality, as demonstrated by previous MST3K Kickstarter campaigns that successfully funded entire seasons, and it will be interesting to see how the team uses the money to create the new episodes.
In 2015, Joel Hodgson, the creator of the show, successfully raised $6.3 million through a crowdfunding campaign, bringing the beloved series back after a 15-year hiatus. This funding allowed for the creation of 14 new episodes, including a holiday special, which eventually aired on Netflix. Another highly successful crowdfunding drive in 2021 brought in $6.5 million, exceeding all expectations. This enabled the production of 13 new episodes, 12 short films, and the development of Gizmoplex, a dedicated online platform for fans of the show.
