MHA Anime End Is Just the Start for New Official Projects
Kohei Horikoshi’s manga, My Hero Academia, first appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014 and quickly gained a dedicated following. The story is set in a world where most people have superpowers, called “Quirks,” and focuses on Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, a boy born without any powers. After seeing Deku try to be a hero, the famous hero All Might gives Deku a chance to fulfill his dream of becoming a hero like him. The manga ran for 42 volumes and concluded in 2024.
The popular anime series My Hero Academia quickly became a cultural phenomenon, launching just two years after the original manga. The anime has aired over 160 episodes across eight seasons, and will conclude next summer with the final episodes. One more episode from the current set will premiere on November 8th, with the remainder of Season 8 scheduled to air in 2026 when the series returns on May 20th.
The My Hero Academia franchise has grown beyond just the anime series and video games. Currently, fans are especially excited about the live-action movie, which has been in the works since at least 2018.
Recent updates confirm that Netflix and Legendary Entertainment are moving forward with a live-action My Hero Academia film. Jason Fuchs, known for his work on It: Welcome to Derry and Wonder Woman, will write the screenplay. Shinsuke Sato, who directed the live-action versions of Gantz, Death Note: New Generation, Bleach, and Alice in Borderland, is directing. Currently, a release date has not been announced.
