New Jurassic World movie compared to Steven Spielberg classic Jaws

As a child of the ’80s and ’90s, I was captivated by the magic that Steven Spielberg wove through my youth, from the terror of Jaws to the wonder of E.T. So, hearing Gareth Edwards liken Jurassic World Rebirth to one of Spielberg’s iconic films fills me with a sense of nostalgia and excitement.

Growing up, I can still recall the thrill of visiting my local cinema to watch each new release from the legendary director. The anticipation, the shared gasps, the collective laughter – those experiences are etched into my memory. Now, as an adult, the idea that Jurassic World Rebirth will evoke that same emotion is truly exhilarating.

I’ve followed Gareth Edwards’ career since his work on Godzilla, and I am thrilled to see him take on the mantle of directing a Jurassic Park film. The prospect of a survival story across an island, reminiscent of Spielberg’s Jaws, has me counting down the days until its release.

I can only imagine the dynamic between Johansson, Bailey, and Ali as they navigate their adventure together, mirroring the characters from Jaws in a battle for supremacy. If Edwards manages to capture even a fraction of the magic that Spielberg did in his early films, I’m confident that Jurassic World Rebirth will be an unforgettable experience.

Now, let me leave you with this little joke: When asked why he was so excited for Jurassic World Rebirth, my 8-year-old self replied “Because I can’t wait to go back to the island and see if they fixed the power!

In the Jurassic Park series, Steven Spielberg directed the initial two movies; however, the most recent installment, Jurassic World: Dominion, is being likened to one of his other films.

Earlier this year, it became known that Universal Pictures intended to produce a fourth installment in the Jurassic World series, making it the seventh movie in the entire franchise that started back in 1993.

Over the following months, the project was assigned a director (Gareth Edwards) and attracted several well-known actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. With this star-studded cast, the dinosaur-packed action started to crystallize.

Edwards, who has a history of work on both the Star Wars and Godzilla series, recently discussed the forthcoming movie with Entertainment Weekly. He compared this new project to Steven Spielberg‘s groundbreaking success, Jaws, in terms of both commercial and critical impact.

This film feels like a heartfelt tribute to the great Steven Spielberg and his iconic movies from my childhood,” I expressed. “There are instances in it that evoke memories of ‘Jaws’ for me. It’s almost like a compilation of the best elements from all those classic Spielberg films that sparked my love for cinema as a kid.

The director described it as a mini journey full of surprises, more like a survival tale in essence, he said. He went on to explain that the main group of characters resemble the roles of Brody, Hooper, and Quint from Steven Spielberg’s 1975 movie.

He explained, “It’s a triangular relationship involving three distinct characters who intersect. What struck me is the camaraderie among them, which was quite evident. It’s not so much a romantic triangle as it is a competitive dynamic about who holds the highest rank within their group.

Title rephrased: “Resurrection of Jurassic World,” occurring five years following the events in “Jurassic World: Dominion,” focuses on the character Zora Bennett, a seasoned expert in covert operations, embarking on a clandestine operation to retrieve genetic samples from the globe’s three largest dinosaurs, accompanied by her highly skilled team.

Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled to be released on July 2, 2025.
