New Inspector Morse production with recast of iconic detective confirms further cast news

The upcoming live performance of “Inspector Morse” has recently announced several fresh acting roles, set to debut a month from now.

As an ardent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the upcoming Inspector Morse: House of Ghosts has announced a new cast member stepping into the shoes of the legendary detective, previously brought to life by John Thaw in the original television series. This time around, it’s Tom Chambers who will be donning the iconic detective‘s coat.

It is now official that Waterloo Road’s Tachia Newall will team up with DS Robbie Lewis, previously portrayed by Kevin Whately in the series, as his partner.

In addition, Teresa Banham from “The Crown” is cast as Ellen, James Gladdon plays Freddy, Spin Glancy takes on the role of Justin, Robert Mountford portrays both Lawrence Baxter and Paul Kincaid, Olivia Onyehara assumes roles including Rebecca, Harriet, and Ellen, Charlotte Randle is Verity, while Josh Katembela and Eliza Teale are also part of the cast.

The introduction hints at an “unsettling enigma,” revolving around a young performer who experiences an “unexpected demise onstage during a show,” triggering an intense inquiry for Morse.

The initial investigation into a potentially suspicious death becomes more ominous for the renowned detective and DS Lewis as they discover links to troubling occurrences from the inspector’s past, dating back a quarter of a century.

The ghostly novel titled “House of Ghosts” was authored posthumously by Alma Cullen, a writer known for creating episodes in television, and it’s directed by Anthony Banks.

The director expressed great eagerness, stating, “It’s thrilling to kick off collaboration with such an outstanding ensemble that will breathe life into these cherished characters and give them a unique touch.

Alma Cullen’s initial Morse tale features a cleverly designed subplot, where a play-within-the-story is employed – a brilliant idea for a murder mystery, as it highlights the parallels between assuming roles in acting and hiding wrongdoings.

The tour kicks off at Birmingham Rep on the 28th of August, running through mid-September. Following this, it will travel to various locations across the UK, including York, Nottingham, Belfast, Cardiff, and Edinburgh, with performances continuing until April 2026. The classic TV series “Inspector Morse” aired from 1987 to 2000, and it was inspired by the books written by Colin Dexter. Since then, it has given rise to follow-up series like “Lewis” and “Endeavour”.
