New Hunger Games movie casts former EastEnders and Strictly star in notable role

The Hunger Games spoilers follow.

Former EastEnders star Kara Tointon has landed a role in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel.

As a devoted fan, I found myself immersed in Suzanne Collins’ masterpiece titled “Sunrise on the Reaping,” a captivating narrative set during the 50th Hunger Games. In this gripping tale, I find myself stepping into the shoes of Haymitch Abernathy, a youthful District 12 Tribute chosen for this brutal competition.

What to Read Next

The tale unfolds detailing Haymitch’s tumultuous battle within the arena, where the resourceful youngster employs his quick intellect to triumph in the Quarter Quell. However, Haymitch emerges victorious but pays a great price for his success.

Tointon, famed for portraying Dawn Swann in ‘EastEnders’, will take on the role of Haymitch’s mother, Willamae Abernathy.

Just now, it was announced on the official Instagram account for “The Hunger Games,” where they unveiled four fresh actors joining the team.

Additionally, the prequel will showcase Smylie Bradwell playing the role of Sid Abernathy, Jeffrey Hallman as Clark Carmine, and Serafin Mischiev portraying Woodbine Chance.

The actors are set to team up with a number of previously mentioned celebrities, such as Joseph Zada from “Invisible Boys” (Haymitch), Whitney Peak from “The Giver: The Gathering” (Lenore Dove Baird), Elle Fanning from “A Complete Unknown” (Effie Trinket), Ralph Fiennes from various projects (President Snow), and Kieran Culkin from “Succession” (Caesar Flickerman).

Initially, Tointon made her debut on “EastEnders” back in 2005, portraying the role of Mickey Miller’s sister. Throughout her tenure, Dawn was involved in numerous dramatic plots such as an illicit relationship leading to pregnancy and a harrowing kidnapping ordeal.

In 2009, she put aside the soap, and in the year that followed, she joined Strictly Come Dancing. Alongside her professional dance partner, Artem Chigvintsev, they were ultimately declared the winners of the show’s championship.

At the break of dawn, “Sunrise at the Harvest” – a fresh prequel to the “Hunger Games” series – will hit cinemas on November 20, 2026. If you can’t wait to get your hands on the book version, it’s already available for purchase now.
