New Girl’s Jake Johnson lands next lead movie role
As a long-time fan of Jake Johnson‘s work, I couldn’t be more thrilled about his latest role in “The Dink.” Having grown up watching him as the lovable Nick Miller on “New Girl,” it’s heartening to see him continue to push boundaries and tackle new projects. The fact that this new comedy revolves around pickleball, a sport I’ve been known to dabble in at community centers, only adds to my excitement.
New Girl‘s Jake Johnson has landed the lead role in a comedy movie about pickleball.
As reported by Deadline, The Dink movie features Johnson playing a former tennis champion grappling with saving a troubled tennis club. To accomplish this task and win over his father’s approval, Johnson’s character is compelled to engage in an activity he vowed never to partake in – pickleball.
Under the guidance of director Josh Greenbaum, this upcoming comedy boasts an impressive cast including Mary Steenburgen from ‘The Proposal’, Ed Harris known for his role in ‘Westworld’, Ben Stiller, and former tennis star Andy Roddick.
Through their production company, Red Hour Films (co-owned by Stiller and John Lesher), will collaborate with Rivulet Films, represented by Rob Paris and Mike Witherill, in producing the movie. Additionally, Johnson is set to contribute as a producer for the project as well.
Filming is set to begin this November in Los Angeles with a release date yet to be announced.
In another part of the world, the Johnson-penned and starring comedy thriller “Self Reliance” has just been added to Paramount+’s library in the UK. This film, marking Johnson’s first venture into full-length directing, is both written by and features him as the lead actor.
The story unfolds around Tommy, a man in midlife, as he embarks on an intriguing game for the chance to claim a million dollars on an underground television program broadcast from the dark web.
Tommy needs to last for thirty days, eluding a global network of assassins hot on his heels. However, he discovers an exception: he can’t be harmed unless he’s by himself.
As soon as he encounters another competitor (Anna Kendrick), they both opt to share each precious moment together, a necessity for navigating the treacherous contest and claiming the reward. Along the way, their bond deepens.
The series “Self Reliance” boasts an impressive cast including Andy Samberg from “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, Emily Hampshire of “Schitt’s Creek”, Natalie Morales known for “Dead to Me”, and the legendary Christopher Lloyd, famed for his role in “Back to the Future”.
