New Friday Night Lights Series Confirmed With Original Cast

The Friday Night Lights TV show is coming back.

The original cast of Friday Night Lights is reuniting for a documentary to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary, according to Deadline. They’ll be filming with the actors at the ATX TV Festival this year.

This documentary features fresh interviews with the actors and creators of the popular series, sharing untold stories from behind the scenes. It also examines the significant influence Friday Night Lights has had on pop culture over the past twenty years.

A film crew will be documenting the cast as they participate in panels at the ATX Television Festival. Confirmed attendees include original Friday Night Lights stars like Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Gaius Charles, Scott Porter, Adrianne Palicki, Jesse Plemons, Brad Leland, Derek Phillips, Louanne Stephens, Aimee Teegarden, and Stacey Oristano.

A new documentary is being released at a great moment, because interest in Friday Night Lights is still strong. And excitingly, a new TV series is in the works, though it’s a bit different from what you might expect.

After many years off the air, the beloved sports drama Friday Night Lights is being revived. Jason Katims, the showrunner for the original series, is involved in developing the new version for Peacock.

The next version of the show will feature a new group of characters, but it’s currently unknown whether it will be set in the same world as the original. If it is connected to the first version, actors from the original cast could potentially return.

Currently, there haven’t been many new details about the reboot since it was first announced in December 2024 that Peacock won the rights over Netflix. Director Peter Berg will return as an executive producer for this new version.

Originally airing on NBC and later moving to DirecTV, Friday Night Lights was a critically acclaimed show known for its realistic and engaging stories, both on and off the football field. With memorable quotes and a large, well-developed cast, it’s still considered one of the best television series from the 2000s.

Although Friday Night Lights originally aired for five seasons and concluded in 2011, it continues to gain popularity with viewers around the world. The show has received consistently high ratings, with a 97% average score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 93% audience score.

In the United States, you can watch Friday Night Lights on Paramount+ or by purchasing it on DVD or Blu-ray.
