Channel 5 will broadcast a new drama, Suspect: Kate McCann, detailing the police questioning of Madeleine McCann’s mother, Kate McCann, after her daughter went missing. The program focuses on the contentious interrogation process.
In July 2007, three months after her daughter went missing, Kate McCann was questioned by Portuguese police. The questioning soon became confrontational, as officers informed her they no longer believed her account and were now treating her as a formal suspect.
The detectives informed her they had proof linking her to the disappearance, and warned that she would be charged with murder if she didn’t confess.

This program examines the 48 hours that nearly stopped the search for Madeleine McCann and put Kate and Gerry McCann under intense scrutiny, fighting to prove their innocence. It’s a harrowing story, representing the worst possible nightmare for any parent.
The drama is based on official police material, documentary evidence, and recorded testimony.

Laura Bayston will give a powerful and emotional performance as Kate McCann, in a production directed by Paula Wittig and written by Philip Ralph.
Dan Louw from Channel 5 described the film as a deeply moving drama built on real evidence, offering viewers a look beyond what cameras were able to capture – inside the private setting of an interview room.
“Suspect: Kate McCann” is a gripping and emotionally powerful film that’s sure to stay with you long after the credits roll. The writing, direction, and performances are all exceptional, with Laura Bayston delivering a particularly standout performance as Kate McCann.
Further casting details and a release date will be announced in due course.

The second installment in the 5’s Suspect series, Suspect: The Road Rage Killer, will explore the case of Tracie Andrews, who received a life sentence for the murder of her fiancé, Lee Raymond Dean Harvey.
According to reports, she stated that her fiancé died after being attacked in a road rage incident.
Following a very poorly received press conference, she was suddenly accused of the murder. Investigators re-examined the sequence of events, verified witness testimonies, and analyzed the physical evidence. Gradually, the woman who initially came to the police station as a witness became the main suspect.
So, the movie basically shows how her initial story starts falling apart, how the investigation then took a completely different turn, and what happened as a result of that new direction. It’s like, she thought she knew what was going on, but then everything changed and things got messy!
Emma Rigby will play Tracie Andrews, with Grant Armour directing.
Suspect: Kate McCann and Suspect: The Road Rage Killer will air on 5.
