New Diddly Squat farmhand Harriet Cowan takes cheeky swipe at boss Jeremy Clarkson as glam blonde claims not all farmers are ‘old men with beer bellies’

Harriet Cowan, a new employee at Diddly Squat Farm, playfully challenged her boss, Jeremy Clarkson, by stating that not every farmer is a 60-year-old man with a beer belly.

In the fourth season of the Amazon streaming series “Clarkson’s Farm,” a stunning young woman, aged 24, took center stage. This show chronicles the journey of the ex-host of Top Gear, now 65 years old, as he navigates the world of farming, stepping in for Kaleb Cooper, who is 26 and was absent from multiple episodes due to unavailability.

Currently, Harriet – a dedicated nurse by profession – expresses her aspiration that her leading part in the program will serve to disrupt the conventional notion about who could potentially be a farmer.

She told BBC News: ‘I believe when discussing the concept of a farmer, people often envision a 60-year-old male in a plaid shirt with a rounded stomach. However, I want to emphasize that we, as women, also work as farmers.’

‘Even though I have a petite build, sport a blonde hairstyle, and enjoy styling my hair and applying makeup, it doesn’t limit my ability to be a farmer.’

I aim to challenge and shift the traditional roles of men as farmers and women as homemakers and cooks. Historically, during wartime, women took over farming duties, proving that they too can farm. So, while the gender stereotypes are being redefined, we continue our agricultural work.

On Thursday, Harriet was spotted mingling with her newly-acquired admirers at the Staffordshire County Show, having quickly won their favor.

She had an effortless appearance, donning a white shirt and denim pants, as she leisurely walked about, examining cattle and machinery.

On a sunny day outing, multiple admirers approached Harriet requesting a photo opportunity. One of them later wrote on Instagram: “Made my day!

The Stafford County Fair, happening on the 28th and 29th of May 2025, is a two-day event showcasing agriculture. It features various competitions for livestock and horses, as well as more than 400 trade stands. Additionally, there’s an area dedicated to country pursuits that offers activities suitable for everyone in the family.

The outing refers to Harriet’s recent appearance, which followed her revealing a supposedly fake scene on Clarkson’s Farm during an honest conversation on the Should I Delete That podcast with Emily, Jeremy’s daughter, this past week.

She mentioned a particular moment in the trailer that appeared unrealistic to her upon rewatching, but surprisingly, it turned out to be accurate.

On their podcast, they talked about the hectic schedules of farmers and mentioned that Harriet herself is employed as a nurse for five days a week.

Emily inquired if it was common for you to relax or dine with your partner. She found it hard to believe that such an activity is unattainable for you.

Later on, Harriet commented: “Not me! The question in the trailer is, ‘Have you seen Clarkson’s Farm previously?’ To which I replied, ‘Nope’. But after watching it, it seemed incredibly staged to me.

‘But it is so real because we don’t watch telly.

If we start watching something, James is likely to slump into a seated position, his head might even touch the back of the couch, as he falls asleep instantly due to being constantly fatigued.

On the podcast Harriet also spoke about breaking stereotypes of women working in farming.

She expressed that her appearance on the show aimed to demonstrate the capability of women as well. They may be present, yet often unnoticed. Indeed, women are fully capable.

‘Most people think of just older men wearing checked shirts when it comes to farming.

I’m defying the common stereotype about what a farmer should look like, leaving many people quite surprised when they see me driving the tractor and they can only gawk at me in amazement as they pass by.

Clarkson’s Farm series one to three are available to stream exclusively on Prime Video.

Starting on May 23, we’ll be airing the fourth series. Two more episodes will follow a week later, on May 30. Then, the last two episodes will be shown on June 6.
