New “deliciously gritty” and “epic” ’90s-set crime drama is ‘guaranteed to have audiences hooked’

Next week, a captivating new crime series with a delightful grittiness is expected to draw viewers in on Viaplay.

Drawing upon real-life occurrences, the series titled “Mafia” is situated in 1990s Sweden. It delves into how this once tranquil country evolved into a landscape marked by intense violence and organized crime conflicts.

A captivating six-episode show is set to chronicle the story of Peshang Rad, a ruthless criminal mastermind known as Radovan “Jakov” Jakovic, who rapidly gains notoriety within the treacherous criminal network.

Regrettably for Jakov, Detective Gunn Thörngren (Katia Winter), who is known for her persistence and ambition, always seems to be a step ahead in dealing with organized crime, making her highly effective at upholding justice.

Rad and Winter, who are highly respected actors, have graced numerous Swedish productions. Notably, Winter is recognized for her roles as Nadia in Dexter, Katrina Crane in Sleepy Hollow, and Gwen Karlsson in Blood & Treasure.

At present, the star takes on the role of Little Nina, a Russian mob boss, in the satirical superhero series “The Boys”. The show is preparing for its fifth and concluding season, with actors Jared Padalecki from “Supernatural” and Misha Collins set to become part of the cast.

Mafia will premiere on Viaplay on 23 June.
