As promised, the BBC delivers plenty of intriguing mysteries in the latest episode, with the Saint Marie detectives investigating a murder that takes place right on the beach.
This is the first time viewers of the show are seeing Sergeant Mattie Fletcher (played by Catherine Garton) on screen. Garton joins the BBC crime drama as Ginny Holder, who played Darlene Curtis, leaves after seven years.

The preview for Season 15 suggests Mattie will face difficulties adjusting to the team, as secrets from her past start to come to light.
Siobhan Finneran, known for her role in Happy Valley and also a partner of actor Jason Gilks, will be appearing as a guest star in the new season.
During an interview on This Morning, Gilet shared his positive experience working with the Downton Abbey star, praising her current abilities. He noted she’s gained confidence and is consequently getting more opportunities.

The latest season brings back Don Warrington as Selwyn Patterson, the Commissioner of Saint Marie, after he was unexpectedly removed from the position last year.
I was really surprised by how much the fans reacted when my character decided to step down as Commissioner and move to London at the end of season 14. I recently told Radio Times that the whole thing was pretty shocking to me, honestly. I didn’t expect such a big response!

I was really surprised by their reaction, to be honest,” Warrington said. “I expected it to go unnoticed, and for things to continue as normal. But it turns out there’s been a lot of discussion about it, which is nice – I wouldn’t want to pretend I’m not pleased. It was just unexpected to realize how much people had connected with the characters.
The popular actor hinted at a significant change for the Commissioner character this season. He told Radio Times that producers approached him with a plan to develop the character further, explaining that Commissioner Patterson will return with a noticeably different attitude.
The new season of Death in Paradise begins on BBC One on Friday, January 30th. All episodes of Death in Paradise, as well as its spin-offs Beyond Paradise and Return to Paradise, are currently available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
