New “chaotic and dysfunctional” Irish BBC drama confirms cast with Kin and Derry Girls stars
The recently announced Irish drama from the BBC titled “The Walsh Sisters” has finalized its star-studded cast, featuring actors known for their roles in “Kin” and “Derry Girls“.
Originally announced a year ago, this TV series, jointly produced by BBC and RTÉ, is inspired by the popular book series penned by renowned Irish author Marian Keyes. It chronicles the journey of five sisters as they experience the ups and downs of their late twenties and thirties.
The list of actors has been revealed, featuring Danielle Galligan from “Kin” as the eldest sibling Claire, and Louisa Harland known for “Derry Girls” portraying the character Anna who seems to be going through some difficulties.
In this production, Caroline Menton from “Oddity” takes on the role of Rachel, Máiréad Tyers from “Belfast” portrays Helen, the youngest sibling, and Stefanie Preissner from “Can’t Cope, Won’t Cope” will play Maggie, who is the mother’s favorite.
As a gamer, I’m excited to share some behind-the-scenes news! Preissner is stepping up as a writer and planning to transform Keyes’s novels “Rachel’s Holiday” and “Anybody Out There” into episodes for our series. Meanwhile, Kefi Chadwick from “Rivals'” team is taking on the challenge of adapting two of our upcoming episodes!
In addition to the cast, you’ll find Aidan Quinn from “Elementary” portraying Jack ‘Daddy’ Walsh, Carrie Crowley of “Vikings” as Mammy Walsh, Debi Mazar known for “Kaos” as Chaquie, Gina Moxley from “Game of Thrones” as Josephine, Jay Duffy, who starred in “The Wheel of Time,” as Luke Costello, and Samuel Anderson, a familiar face from “Amandaland,” as Aidan.
Harland expressed her profound joy at being a member of the Walsh family, acknowledging that these books hold immense significance for countless individuals.
Menton expressed his excitement saying, “It’s an absolute joy to join ‘The Walsh Sisters’. The character Rachel holds a special place in my heart and has touched millions worldwide over almost two decades.
Rachel’s story is one filled with hope, and I consider it an honor to help breathe life into her character and contribute to the adaptation of Marian Keyes’ beloved Walsh family for television.
The series will delve into a group of sisters sharing inside jokes, lingering grudges passed down, and several healing scars from the past.
The synopsis continues by stating that despite challenges such as heartache, sorrow, substance abuse, and parenthood, the Walsh sisters remain united due to their genetic bond, shared past experiences, and mutual affection for power ballads.
The Walsh Sisters will begin filming soon, with a release date yet to be confirmed.
