New British thriller that will “blow the Netflix audience away” confirms release date with first look

Netflix has officially announced the release date for their latest suspenseful drama from Britain, titled “Hostage”, and has revealed some initial sneak peeks.

The television show is penned and helmed by Matt Charman, known for writing “Bridge of Spies”. This fictional production features Suranne Jones portraying the newly elected British Prime Minister Abigail Dalton, while Julie Delpy takes on the role of French President Vivienne Toussaint.

Slated for launch on the 21st of August, this limited series features an ensemble cast that includes Corey Mylchreest, Lucian Msamati, Ashley Thomas, James Cosmo, Martin McCann, and Jehnny Beth.

Originally known as “The Choice“, this five-part narrative chronicles the ordeals of two leaders, whose lives are turned upside down when Abigail’s spouse gets abducted and Vivienne finds herself in a position of being extorted.

In this plot, the spouse of the British Prime Minister gets abducted, while the visiting French President is put in a difficult situation by being threatened. Consequently, both political leaders are forced to make extraordinary decisions they never anticipated.

Caught in a ruthless competition where our very destinies are at stake, I find myself questioning if we can join forces to expose the sinister scheme endangering us both.

Actress Jones, best known for her role in “Gentleman Jack,” will also be involved as an executive producer for this upcoming project – a unique venture that represents her debut collaboration with Netflix.

Initially, photographs reveal that Jones and Delpy are positioned behind podiums outside the iconic Number 10 Downing Street. A separate snapshot captures Jones alone, striking a pose at this well-known location, while yet another depicts her alongside her fictional relatives.

Regarding the upcoming show on Netflix, Jones expressed his excitement in a statement: “I’m overjoyed to be part of Netflix with something I can truly be proud of. This has been a dream of mine for quite some time now. Previous discussions about projects had taken place, but it was all about finding the perfect fit. For me, ‘Hostage’ was just that – an opportunity for Matt and me to work together, backed by a fantastic, encouraging team. I couldn’t be happier with it.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the perfect tale to bring to life alongside Suranne. I truly feel that the depth and power she’s infused into this character will leave Netflix viewers utterly astounded. Portraying a beleaguered British Prime Minister amidst a battle for her nation and family, she exudes a fierce, relentless intensity that keeps you riveted to every scene.

Hostage is released on Netflix on 21 August.
