Never Sending My Son!

Jodie Kidd disclosed that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, stemming from her time spent at boarding school as a child. She confessed that it would fill her with horror if her son were to attend such an institution in the future.

From the age of ten, the renowned model, then aged 46, attended the prestigious St. Michael’s School in Sussex, an institution that ceased operation in 1994 and currently functions as a private estate.

As a devoted adherent, I recall my 80s childhood as a time when we were all whisked away to boarding schools, a place where one’s presence was expected but voice unheard.

She stated that she had limited interactions with her parents, as it was challenging for her. All she can recall is the distressing experiences.

Jodie was also disturbed watching her brother Jack, who is six years older, get sent away.

In simpler terms, when my brother was seven years old, we took him to boarding school. There were times when I experienced traumatic flashbacks of us dropping him off, with him desperately scratching the backseat of the car as he didn’t want to go.

‘And running after the car, screaming as we were driving off – it was really quite traumatic.

It seems I might have developed some deep-seated fears related to abandonment, all stemming from experiences where I was left on my own without much warning or support for extended periods.

Currently, Jodie is the mother of a 13-year-old son named Indio, who she had with her previous partner, Andrea Vianini, a renowned polo player from Argentina.

She acknowledged that her method of raising children varies significantly from how Wendy and John raised her as a child.

She didn’t realize her true desire for mindfulness until she actually adopted Indie. At that point, she thought, “No, no, no, I need to be fully engaged.” Consequently, she decided to leave motor racing and other similar activities behind, as she expressed.

I disliked spending every weekend traveling for races instead of watching him play football on Saturdays, or enjoying typical weekend activities we never experienced as a family. I felt strongly that I needed to correct this situation.

On this week’s Made by Mammas podcast, she shared her aspiration: ‘I yearn to be the engaged, football match-attending, enthusiastic supporter he needs, a truly present parent – unlike the one I had.’

Instead of saying they weren’t bad parents, let me clarify that they were fantastic, and I adore them deeply; however, I feel that era in the seventies and eighties had a significant impact on them. As a result, I was driven to alter that situation.

“To even consider such an action towards Indie feels unimaginable. A resounding ‘never!’ is all I can muster. If Indie were to express a desire for boarding school, I’d be utterly dismayed.

As a dedicated follower, I’m proud to share that our son, Indie, is a day school boy. My partner, the model and TV presenter Jodie, who runs the Half Moon pub in Kirdford, West Sussex, and is engaged to former Royal Marine Joseph Bates, agrees wholeheartedly.

‘Every day: pick him up, drop him off, doing the after-school stuff. It’s such a pleasure.

I nearly feel deeply sorrowful that they missed it, and I’m more saddened by this than anything else. I believe they share the same feelings when they witness our moments.

‘My dad, to Indie, is the most extraordinary grandpa. And my mum.

Next week, he will be visiting us, and his initial plan is to bring someone to London. Hearing this, I remarked, “Dad! You’ve never done that with me!” Yet, they are getting another opportunity.

Previously, in the previous month, Jodie confessed that it was absolutely incorrect for her to have been drinking champagne and smoking cigarettes at the tender age of sixteen, while socializing with Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell at the onset of her modeling career.

As a youngster, this model made a splashy debut in the world of fashion. Caught on a Barbados beach by photographer Terry O’Neil, she went on to spearhead ad campaigns for prestigious brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Chloé.

After experiencing a terrifying panic attack on a runway at age 19, Jodie decided to leave the fashion industry altogether and ultimately relocated from London to her childhood home in West Sussex.

Reflecting upon my exhilarating stint on the runway alongside the iconic duo of Kate at 51 and Naomi at 54 during our heyday, I find myself in a realm that stands starkly contrasted today.

On Olivia Attwood’s So Wrong, It’s Right podcast, she reminisced about the stark contrast between her current and past modeling career, stating, ‘Things are just not the same now.’

‘But [when I was modelling] backstage all you had was champagne and it was very glamorous.

Remarkable personalities from Naomi’s world, such as herself, are seen roaming and showcasing their style to various fashion designers, notably Kate – truly extraordinary figures.

‘And then everyone just drinking champagne and smoking cigarettes.

Reflecting on it now, it seemed quite thrilling, yet it was definitely not suitable behavior for a girl of 16.
