Netflix’s latest hit is actually a show that’s back after a year off. It’s doing well in the US, but it’s become a massive international success, currently ranking number one in over a dozen countries on the Global Top 10 list.

Netflix has a lot of popular shows currently, like Detective Hole, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, One Piece, and Virgin River. But its newest success is a spin-off based on the To All the Boys movies. The original series has three films, with the most recent, To All the Boys: Always and Forever, released in 2021.

Season 3 of XO, Kitty premieres on Netflix April 2nd, and the show has quickly become a hit around the world. It’s currently the most-watched show on Netflix globally and ranks fourth in the United States (according to Flix Patrol). This series is unique because it’s the first time Netflix has created a TV spin-off based on one of its own original movies, which was itself inspired by the books of Jenny Han.

XO, Kitty is a new show created by Han, who also produces and writes it. Anna Cathcart returns as Kitty Song-Covey, the character from the movies. The series follows Kitty, a teenager who considers herself a love expert, as she moves from the U.S. to Korea. She’s going to the boarding school her mother attended and hoping to reconnect with her boyfriend.

When Kitty settles into her new life, she soon realizes she doesn’t have all the answers about love like she thought. As she makes friends, deals with tricky relationships, and experiences surprising emotions, she also begins a journey to understand herself better, learn about her family’s past, and find her place in a different culture.

What Critics Are Saying About ‘XO, Kitty’

Critics generally like XO, Kitty, giving it an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show’s third season is off to a strong start, earning a 75% rating so far. Kristen Maldonado of Pop Culture Planet describes it as a fast-paced and enjoyable show, highlighting that while the main character, Kitty, isn’t perfect, she’s kind and brings people together.

Both Q+ Magazine’s Alex Valencia and Tom’s Guide’s Josh Bell have praised XO, Kitty. Valencia described Season 3 as a “messy, romantic, and emotionally charged” look at senior year, while Bell noted the show continues to be “glossy, upbeat, and full of teen drama.”

With 26 episodes, XO, Kitty is a sweet and funny romantic comedy you can easily finish in a day. Episodes are short – between 26 and 35 minutes long – making it a super binge-worthy show. Although Netflix hasn’t officially announced a renewal, there’s talk that Season 4 is already being planned.
