Fans of Emily Henry’s books enjoyed the movie version of The People We Meet On Vacation that same month. Then, in March, Alan Ritchson showed off his range with a starring role in War Machine, proving he’s more than just Jack Reacher.

A new thriller called Thrash is coming to Netflix, and it sounds like a great choice for a cozy weekend night in. It stars someone you might recognize from the hit show Bridgerton, making it a must-watch for fans of both that series and thrilling movies.

In the movie, she plays Lisa Fields, a pregnant woman who finds herself facing a terrifying situation: a Category 5 hurricane hits her town, and then sharks begin attacking! This role is a bit different for Dynevor, who has previously appeared in dramas like Dickensian and the comedy Younger, where she played a sweet character from Ireland. While fans loved her as Daphne and hoped to see her return in Bridgerton Season 4, this new film offers a thrilling new side of the actress.

The cast also features Djimon Hounsou as researcher Dale Edwards, Whitney Peak as his niece Dakota, and the three siblings Will (Dante Ubaldi), Ron (Stacy Clausen), and Dee Olsen (Alyla Browne).

The shark adds a significant layer of danger to the story, highlighting how a desperate attempt to find safety during a hurricane becomes even more terrifying when you also have to worry about a shark attack. The trailer for Thrash immediately brings to mind Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, which remains the benchmark for shark movies – it’s hard not to compare any new film in the genre to it. Other well-known examples include 2003’s Open Water and the recent 2024 Netflix release, Under Paris, which features a shark in the Seine River.

The trailer shows Phoebe Dynevor giving a captivating performance. While details about her character, Lisa, are limited to her being pregnant, Bridgerton fans can anticipate the same emotional depth and nuance she brought to that popular Netflix show. Lisa’s background is very different from Daphne’s – Daphne grew up privileged, enjoying a comfortable life filled with social events like tea parties and balls. This new role, however, is a complete change of pace, trading Regency-era society for a fight for survival against a dangerous shark.

Daphne’s character has faced hardship, having lost her father along with her siblings. Although we don’t know the full extent of Lisa’s struggles in Thrash, pregnancy is always a mix of joy and worry, and now she’s facing the terrifying possibility of a shark attack.
