The Argentine TV show, adapted from the classic 1950s comic book The Eternaut, has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 88% audience score. According to a report from in April, plans are now underway to expand the show’s future with more content.

Netflix Is Going Big for The Eternaut Season 2

Netflix has recently opened a new office in Argentina and announced plans to create more movies and TV shows from the region. They’ve also confirmed that a popular show will be back in 2027, and even before the second season airs, they’re already considering making a third one.

Netflix is actively working on Season 2 and plans to invest heavily in it. This comes as The Eternaut has become the most popular TV series ever created in Argentina.

According to Francisco Ramos, Netflix’s VP of Content for Latin America, they’re aiming much higher with the new season. While some preliminary work, like visual effects planning, is underway, filming with the actors hasn’t started yet. Ramos explains the new season is significantly larger than the first, both in terms of budget and overall ambition.

The Eternaut Is TV’s Next Major Sci-Fi Franchise

I was surprised to hear that the second season of The Eternaut isn’t going to be the end of the story like originally planned. It sounds like the streaming service is now thinking about how to continue the series beyond that.

According to Ramos, the team needs to ensure they meet all goals for Season 2 while also planning for a possible Season 3. The first season proved to be a turning point, especially in Argentina, where content resonated with both local and international audiences, demonstrating significant potential.

The Eternaut takes place in Buenos Aires, where a strange and dangerous snowfall begins one summer night. This toxic snow is instantly fatal to anyone it touches, quickly killing most of the city’s population. Those who survive must stay inside or wear protective suits whenever they venture out. They soon realize the snowfall is actually the start of an alien invasion, and they’re forced to unite and fight for their survival.
