Netflix’s tense new thriller with Siobhan Finneran confirms release date with chilling trailer

Netflix just dropped a gripping trailer for its upcoming thriller, Unchosen, and announced it will be available in April. The series stars Siobhan Finneran (known from Happy Valley) and Asa Butterfield (from Sex Education). It follows a woman caught in a tense situation within a secretive and controlling British cult, torn between her stifling marriage and a mysterious new arrival with a troubled past.

We’ve already seen a glimpse of the characters, including the enigmatic Mr. Phillips (Christopher Eccleston), who seems to be in charge of the group. This new trailer expands on the unsettling atmosphere of the first one, showing us more of Rosie (Molly Windsor) and the difficulties in her marriage. We learn she meets a mysterious man who turns out to be a fugitive from the law.

The six-episode series, originally shown on Netflix, centers around Rosie, who lives with her husband, Adam, and their daughter within a secluded Christian community.

When Sam, a runaway convict, enters her life, she begins to see her world – and the secluded religious community she lives in – for what it truly is. She starts to suspect they may not have her well-being at heart.

As her marriage falls apart, Sam seems like a rescue. However, with a hidden and dangerous past, it’s unclear whether the real threat comes from the cult or from Sam himself.

What to Read Next

In the show’s preview, Mrs. Phillips, played by Siobhan Finneran, cautions Rosie, “You’re married, but he’s someone who wasn’t selected.” Another character then warns Rosie that he’s a threat and she should keep him away from her and their children.

But who can Rosie trust?

Asa Butterfield, known for his role in the popular Netflix series Sex Education, joins the cast as Rosie’s husband. Fra Fee, who recently appeared in Prime Target, plays the character of Sam.

I’m really excited for this new show, Unchosen, which comes out on April 21st! It’s written by Julie Gearey, who’s worked on shows like Secret Diary of a Call Girl and Coronation Street – so I have high hopes! Plus, Jim Loach (he directed Criminal Record) and Philippa Langdale (who worked on A Discovery of Witches) both directed episodes, which is awesome.

Sounds like one to watch.

Unchosen will premiere on Netflix on Tuesday, 21 April.
