Netflix’s Sirens: Cancelled or Renewed?
Warning: Includes SPOILERS for Sirens!
As a passionate TV enthusiast, I can’t help but sing praises for the captivating show, “Sirens,” now gracing Netflix’s esteemed collection of originals. The question on everyone’s lips is, “Why only five episodes?” This intriguing series boasts a talented ensemble cast, with rising stars like Milly Alcock and Meghann Fahy, alongside seasoned veterans such as Julianne Moore and Kevin Bacon. It’s the ideal choice for a weekend binge-watching session, delivering engaging performances, tantalizing mystery, and dynamic characters that keep you guessing. It’s no surprise that viewers are yearning for more episodes!
Following five episodes, the finale of Sirens unveils some startling secrets, with Simone (Milly Alcock) stranded on the island, assuming Michaela’s (Julianne Moore) role as Peter’s (Kevin Bacon) wife. Devon (Meghann Fahy) recognizes the pride she holds for her life’s values and decides to go back home with a renewed perspective, prepared to look after her father in Buffalo. Essentially, while the heart of this story may have reached its conclusion, there’s always potential for further chapters to unfold.
Sirens’ Story Is Based On A Play That’s Only 90 Minutes Long
Sirens Already Got The Most Out Of Its Source Material
As a devoted cinephile, I must say that when it comes to “Sirens,” there’s a certain level of accountability to honor the source material since it isn’t an entirely unique tale. Originally stemming from a 2011 stage play titled “Elemeno Pea,” which clocks in at a swift 90 minutes, this adaptation expands into a five-episode television season. This extension offers new characters and plotlines to cater to the demands of the small screen.
As a movie enthusiast, I ponder the possibility of delving deeper into the captivating world of Sirens. It’s a gamble, no doubt, but history has shown us that risks can sometimes lead to great rewards. Take, for instance, the first season of HBO’s Big Little Lies, which was adapted from a best-selling novel. Initially conceived as a miniseries, its success prompted the creation of a second season that didn’t have a supporting novel. While it was well-received, it didn’t quite reach the heights of critical acclaim of the first season.
Sirens, like any play, has its own unique ending, crafted with purpose. Expanding on its narrative could be enticing, but without a stronger foundation, it might not resonate as profoundly. The story concludes where it does, for a reason.
Sirens Being A Limited Series At Netflix Means More Episodes Aren’t Coming
Nothing Is Confirmed Right Now
The brief five-episode run of “Sirens” may not have a sequel or second season lined up just yet. As things stand, no official announcements about future seasons have been made by Netflix. For the moment, fans can only look forward to the existing five episodes. Although it’s a short series, its compact nature makes for a swift and easily digestible storyline.
Netflix might choose to prolong the series or decide to conclude it as a miniseries. The decision could hinge on factors such as scheduling and discovering an authentic storyline that appeals to all characters. It’s essential to provide quality content, and having the characters return to the island solely for forced reasons, to keep the drama going, would be disappointing. Audiences deserve thoughtful material.
Sirens’ Cast & Creator Still Haven’t Ruled Out Returning For Season 2
Nothing Is Impossible In Hollywood
Information from the Sirens team can give some understanding of their thoughts on a potential second season. Fortunately, for those who are eager for more content, they haven’t definitively ruled it out. Star Meghann Fahy discussed season 2, expressing her desire to further the storyline. She mentioned that while they hadn’t considered the possibility during the filming of the first season, she was intrigued by what might become of Julianne Moore’s character, Michaela.
In a conversation with Glamour magazine, Molly Smith Metzler, the writer and adaptor, expressed hopefulness about Season 2 while emphasizing her commitment to artistic authenticity regarding the beloved characters from Sirens. When asked if she would continue writing them, she responded, “I could pen them until my last day. I wouldn’t rule out a return, but could I do them justice in another season? I’d need to ponder that.” Essentially, the fate of this TV series depends on her decision, implying that if Sirens comes back, it will be with good cause.
